Well, I took the fence down yesterday and then today I mowed off where I planted the clover and also plowed the little plot that I will plant an annual in August. I am curious to see how hard the deer will hit the beans. In the pic the clover plot is beyond the beans and near the camera is the hayfield that the neighbor mowed today.

That looks terrible. Tell me where it's at and I'll just hunt it this fall and let you know how it is. Of course, I won't expect to see any deer. I'll go just to shoot any groundhogs they may come by. I'll give you a very honest report on the few mangy deer that may happen by.

Ya know, I used to have a groundhog spot in Tioga County where I mostly just sat and watched deer filter out from the edges. That pic reminds me of that spot.

I planted those same beans last year and the deer didn't touch then, but went after the RR beans.
I killed them and disced them down due to weeds that I really didn't want going to seed.
Still have a bag of them, not sure what to do with them.

Always been my experience that certain areas of a field will get more browsing than others even though the plants look the same. Always wondered if maybe different minerals in the soil affected the flavor.

The ice must be wet down before you pour in the crown or they will kick the glass on the ground and file a complaint with the EEOC. Man....talk about your upper class.

Always been my experience that certain areas of a field will get more browsing than others even though the plants look the same. Always wondered if maybe different minerals in the soil affected the flavor. They barely ate my RR beans, as there were few deer. I'm guessing if the entire plot was the Tyrone beans, they would have eaten them, as they would have had no choice. I'm liking the idea of RR beans as it helps clean up a plot. Last year, the red root came in thick, and being able to plant, then hit the red root, makes a big difference.

Here are some pics showing the height of the beans. We measured and the highest spot was 50". You can see the difference along the edge where it didn't get as much fertilizer and the deer have been eating.
