I have been wanting to plant these for a while, but they have been out of stock. Not sure about transplanting this time of the year, but since they are close to the house I can water every night. I got 4 of them to try out. They came on the UPS truck and I was quite impressed. They said 8+" but these were somewhere around 36". They also had a nice rootball with them. I got them in the ground and put alot of water on them. Man is the ground dry around here. Here are some pics of them. I went back after and added some fence to the top as in the pic as it was only 3' high. I wasn't expecting them to be that big and didn't think I would need to extend until next year. www.nativnurseries.com/p-51-wild-deer-pear-pyrus-communis.aspxA couple pics of the rootballs. In the ground.

Cspot, any update for these? If they are doing well, what is the growing zone? Would you plant them again?

Cspot, any update for these? If they are doing well, what is the growing zone? Would you plant them again? Don't really know yet as I just planted them this past fall. 3 of the 5 that I planted looked good a couple months later, but 2 were looking a little suspect although they were still alive. I am anxious to see how they look this spring. The downside to trees is it takes so long to know if they were a success. I wish I would have planted trees 15 years ago when I moved here as they would now be producing.

I know what you mean, Cspot. And I try to encourage my sons to plant trees. I hope they get to enjoy the benefits of the many trees we have planted on our property. As I get older, it seems I appreciate the things that take patience much more than when I was a young man.
