Have 11 nest boxes out now one pair of bluebirds , and about 6 pair of tree swallows..
last year the bluebird pair tried 4 X to raise a clutch...never hatched one egg. Not holding out a lot of hope for this pair as it's probably the same ones as last year. Time will tell.
The tree swallows did a great job with their clutch.
More snow showers today, cold & windy.

No action at my two best boxes. I gave a third to put up.
Last year one pair of bluebirds had success and house wrens. Usually have tree swallows, but didn't last year.

Got a surprise last evening when I looked in one of the Chickadee nests. From doing more internet research I found out that Chickadees will sometimes cover their eggs when they leave the nest. So the last time I checked the box it probably had eggs that were covered up. Last evening the hen flew off the nest so I got to see the eggs.

Saw my first humming bird of the year this evening after while I was throwing some horse manure on the garden. He flew over to some of our apple trees that just started blooming yesterday.
I also saw a couple honey bees. The hive in one of our hollow oaks seems to have made it through the winter ok. May is a grand month.

Had quite the aerial battle between nested tree swallows and a pair trying to move in on them. Fun to watch. Like a dog fight. House wrens appear to be successfully nested as well. They are definitely very vocal for being so small. No bluebirds here this year yet, and the robins haven't nested under my deck like they usually do. I think the crows took their young last year and that has put an end to that.
