Back in early January, I cut a bunch of crabapple trees down that were choking out the black cherry trees next to my yard. After cutting, I just piled them up and left them lay. Without knowing, I helped the rabbits survive a long winter. Look how they skinned the bark off of these trees.
Here is where they came, hopping down the bunny trail.........

Every night my rear deck kept a bunny alive. How? Every night a fox would come thru my back yard looking for this bunny......and this bunny would just hop up to my house and under my deck. The fox was (he had to be) terrified to come that close to my house. I could see each week the fox track go from the "far side" of my yard....to the middle,.....and finally....to the "near side" of my yard. But that was still a good 20 yards from my house\deck. And he was "trotting" thru between 2:00 and 3;00 in the morning. Sneaky little bugger. I was going to set a trap, but I never felt good enough. But....I'll get 'em next year......before he wises up.

I cut maples a week ago for the bunnies and deer..so far just bunnies hitting the tops.
I wouldn't have cut the crab apples but I'm sure the bunnies are quite happy you did!
Surprisingly I didn't see any pellets in your pictures. I would expect to see piles next to the chewings, a new snow may have covered them as well.
Good job on the bunnies behalf!!

Don't worry TD, There are still plenty of crabapples left. I probably cut about a dozen of 5', 6' and 7' trees but I probably didn't cut a quarter of the total at the edge of the yard. My grand plan is to till it up and plant some type of shade tolerant food plot in this area. Any ideas what I can plant?

I'm just jealous that you have so many crab apples as I have to get them from PGC and plant them.. As far as food plots I have no idea... I've done some snow seeding of clover and that's it besides mast shrubs/trees but Dutch and others could give you info on the plots.

Here in town we put out piles of corn and sunflower seeds. The bunnies come at night and scarf down the corn.
There were 4 bunnies, now three. Saw a blood trail in the yard and a pile of fur. We think an owl wounded the bunny. I'm guessing it died under a bush somewhere.

Well, there might be something to that dreaded Rumenosis Acidosis Supercalifragilisticexpyalidocious...... but I doubt it's as severe as "they" all make it out to be. Just don't see the purported mass die-offs, and there's plenty of folks that feed.
