I've been looking for a small dozer for over a year to combat my growing barberry & multiflora rose problem. Although both can make wonderful wildlife habitat, as many probably know they can also spread and take over a property. I'd almost given up finding a dozer that wasn't in need of much fixing-up, until this little beauty fell into my lap. It's a John Deere 1010 made in 1962 and is in very good condition. I've had it out a few times to get the hang of running a dozer and an awaiting warmer weather to do serious battle with the briers.

I wish you luck on your eradication program. Multiflora rose is taking over many areas of one of the farms I hunt. Areas that I used to be able to walk through are pretty much impossible to get through.

When our deer herd got hammered, the MF started taking over where it could. Grows up into apple trees and kills them. Just a mess. Great for the grouse tho.....

Great for the grouse tho..... I guess we don't have enough deer in 2A. It is taking over many places here in Washington and Greene Counties.

I ran a chain saw over with one of those suckers once! It was stihl too! Nice ride! What's one of those cost?

I've never seen much evidence that deer eat MFO. Rose Rosette disease did a number on it lately but it's making a small comeback the last year or so. AO is a different story, that stuff is everywhere.

Hey stroupy
I gave $5800 for her. A little more than I had hoped to pay, but in her condition I don't think I did bad and they seem hard to find.

Nice dozer! I hunt multi flora rose every season. Thick as hell, full of deer. I have shooting lanes cut thru it. I love the stuff.

Your deer don't live in a buffet though like mine do,, that might have something to do with it.

Barberry and muliflora rose thickets make excellent cover for all types of wildlife. It may be tough hunting, but there are no better deer or bear drives than those thickets. I know, invasive, non-native, blah, blah. However, their value to wildlife can't be denied.

They also crowd out a lot of native plants that would be just as beneficial to wildlife without taking over. Hard to ignore that They are here to stay though unless some disease hits then like the rose rosette disease.

Nice little dozer Greyphase. Man, could I have fun with that.
The forestry service has had work details clearing plots of land for a couple of years here in Michaux. They cut the multiflora rose about a foot off the ground and then doze out the roots and have a controlled burn. Seems to work rather well.

nice machine you have ....have a 450C and it's like another right hand man around the farm....need to get ROPes for her if you have some rolling hills.

Nice size machine. I had a 850 track loader with a backhoe that I used to basically develop this entire hill....roads, bridges, ponds, house and field clearing etc. Sold it when all the big projects were done, and missed it immediately....as I knew I would. Been renting backhoes for a month each year, every year since then but at least I don't have the maintenance and repairs.
I have plenty of mf rose, some barberry and plenty of autumn olive. But they do not "take over" the woods. They are edge and open area plants....but will grow in sparse woods with open canopy. I haven't seen any of it to be a problem in woods that have good summer canopy.....maybe I'm just lucky?

Thanks for looking everyone. About half my ground is old pasture and will be clearing some of the barberry and multiflora rose to make room for my apple trees, which have become an addicting hobby.

You got that right. I LOVE it. I never was much of a "but it's non-native" prude. My place is nothing but cover, but if it weren't for MF, AO and Honeysuckle, cover would be sparse.
Nice little dozer there. I could sure use it on some places.
