Hope it's better attended than the one Wednesday night.
Doubt there were more than a hundred people at that one, not counting the great turnout by PGC and the handful of AG people.

I see one deer farmer has weighed in on another site, wanting to know how CWD can be called contagious??? He/she pretty much claims it originated in free range deer, so deer farmers cannot be blamed for it.

Lord help us. The best thing ag could do is what they did with avian flu- go in and wipe em out

(quarantined farms with mandatory test requirements) big mistake letting the farmers take care of it themselves. It's asking for trouble mark my words

Next week, a letter will be sent to 47,000 hunters in Adams/York Co. talking about CWD, mandatory check station etc. They will also be invited to the meeting.

Received an "anon" message a bit ago, noting that the remaining captive deer in New Oxford were in the process of being destroyed, when the sole survivor managed to escape into the wild. This is terrific news, eh? My apologies to the message sender, as I didn't get to the phone in time before it went to the machine. I shall notify them of a better number to use, that actually gets answered.

All major PGC folks (Dubrock, Cottrell, etc.) have indicated yesterday or today a "yes" to this meeting, so I will confirm on Monday, but it looks like a definite "go".

Ya know Denny, I heard the same from a source or two- and I'm sitting here sratchin my head wondering where PDA's press release is getting the word out. That was PART of the reason for my RTK request.
I'm curious to know if any/all of the CWD response team was notified of this; and if not, WHY not.

Zip on the AG site about it. The Oct. 19 "tweet" reminds us that Oct. is pork month.....

Nice. Maybe the PDA should be under a "PGC" IRRC Committee- seeing as how "non-responsive" they (PA Department of Agriculture) are, and this directly effects hunters and our wild cervid population.
Whadda ya think? pft!

IMO, enough is not being done. Even publicity and public education on this seems lacking. There just does not seem to be any urgency.

Well I hope my email to ag and key senate and house members will remedy some of the inaction. We will see.

I got a reply back from one of my favorite Senate Staffers this morning.
He forwarded my email and questions to both PGC and PDA. So far, only game replied.
"Game Commission response."
"To the extent that any deer are missing from the facility, or there are any other issues arising out of the facility with the captive deer, unfortunately those issues fall under the jurisdiction of the Dep't of Agriculture. The Game Commission only has the ability to act as it relates to the wild deer population. We have an aggressive plan in place for testing wild deer harvested this year to determine whether the disease has spread to the wild population but as of now we have no information indicating that it has.
Please let me know if you have any questions, as I imagine we'll be dealing with this for quite some time"
I replied back.
Thank you. I am pretty sure the PGC is being cautious here, and given "the mood" of some members of the legislature over the last several weeks; they are being even more cautious since this issue truly does belong to PDA.
XXXXXX XXXXXX is a great resource; but he is correct in deferring to PDA on this. My source tells me Ag had a gag order on this- so its very possible game has only heard it through the grapevine. That is what has me a little concerned here. PDA either doesn't realize the magnitude of this; or they are being apathetic. In either case; that ain't good. I really appreciate your digging here, as you seem to be the only one- at least that I have heard from. Hopefully it will inspire PDA to a more appropriate course of action; one of transparency on this issue.

The letter to hunters has been delayed for a short time. The logistics of the check station or check station(s) procedure is still being worked out. After the meeting Monday evening I hope to have it finalized and begin printing/mailing. We want the information to be as accurate as possible. Thanks!
