If the rain stops, I'll be doing a little mushroom hunting. I've picked some black trumpets and a bunch of chanterelles this summer. Have any other mushroom hunters been out over the past week or so? Are you guys finding anything?
I would expect to find some chicken (sulfur shelf)mushrooms but we're not too big on them. One or two batches of them is enough for us.

Gal found a bunch last week up in Maine, and this morning in Potter she found some edible 'shrooms.

Are morels still around? I keep trying to find them when I am out and about but never have so far?

Haven't looked for shrooms lately, but Shaggy Manes should be up shortly.

I should have checked one of my hotspots for chickens this past weekend. I was in the area and didn't think about it. Chickens should be coming into their own here pretty soon.

Found lots of black trumpets, chanterelles and purple boletes in Maine. Found A chant and three boletes in Potter this past weekend.

There are many mushrooms I'm comfortable identifying. The boletes are not on my list. Are there any give-away ID clues with them. Are the any really close look-alikes?

If you hit the mother load on shrooms and and you have too many to eat before they spoil, instead of freezing them, consider drying them and storing them in an airtight container. You can rehydrate them in wine or stock or wine, or what I like to do is grind them into a powder in a mortor and pestal and use them as a flavoring ingredient in a dish when you cook it, such as gravys or sauces or use it as a dry rub with a little salt and pepper on steaks before you grill them.
