THAT is a very nice plot. Great mix you used there. I have used the Wildlife Perfect mix for 3 years, and it really has worked out well for us. This year, I planted winter wheat instead of the brassicas. Been to many years of brassicas, so, the soil needs a break.

You can always just let fields revert if you want to take them out of rotation, so to speak. If I can find a way to post it, Craig Harper published an outstanding article on old field management for whitetails. I have it as a PDF and can email it if anyone is interested.

I'm not so sure this thing is going to do much better. It's been the same size for close to 2 weeks and now many plants are starting to yellow. Deer are already eating it though so it should be a decent October draw.

I just wonder if the yellowing is due to the low pH and not being able to take up the nutrients you put down?

Eric, we have old fields that have reverted in the area where I plant, and one is adjacent to the plot. I just wanted to give the soil a rest from planting one type of plant too much. I like the idea of winter wheat or rye because even when it warms up a bit in winter, it grows. Plus, in spring, it greens up quick and gives pregnant does high protein feed, when they really need it.
