We picked up a couple new attachments for the Allis Chalmers over the weekend and I was dying to try them out. We plowed up a new plot Sunday morning. Not sure what I'm planting yet. Some of the Bird hunters at my club have been on my butt about all the plots being for Deer. I might have to cave and plant some Milo/ Sunflower in it. Here's a few pics. I know, they will mow them down. Nobody believes me though. I wanted to wait until August and plant the thing in turnips, but the guys want something now. I pissed off a few members doing it. I took out 10 horse shoe pits! I left them 2!

No point in plowing up perfectly good horse shoe pits when there are plenty of wasted space on the dozens of local golf courses.
If you want a good laugh google earth the Titusville country club!

Sun flowers are incredible food plots for lots of stuff, the song birds they attract are beautiful, and the deer love them.

And the bears!! But if ya got lots of deer they might not make it that stage. Great looking ground you have to work with there. I'm envious, we still have snow in areas up here.

That's a great field of Sunflowers! I'll never be able to pull that off, we've got way to many deer.

What model Allis is that? We have a 170, looks pretty similar.
Thanks for sharing the pics, looks good! I planted sunflowers one time, pretty cool food plot! My deer didn't eat them much though.

The Allis is a 180. It's a great tractor, we bought it off craigslist a couple years ago. It came with a loader but we sold it. We have an old Ford with a loader on it as well. This will be our 4th plot. Presently I have 2 planted in clover, and 1 with a pasture mix that the gas line people are using. The deer love it. I'll probably do some strips of turnips on the edge of the clover plots this summer. It's fun to play farmer!

I would personally find a milo/ sorghum variety that grows about 6' in height and produces a good yield to add to your sunflower mixture. Some corn, beans, peas and canola would work for you as well and should help you gain bird and buck activity.
