Couple weeks ago I frost seeded a mix of Red/White Clover into 3 "plots". I use the term plot loosely, as I once had them in an Orchard grass type mix. Clover is expensive as an experiment. $100 to do maybe 2-3 acres. The mix was more Red, as it was 1/2 as cheap as the White. Anybody have any success in frost or overseeding into plots basically void oc clover ? I know it won't be a lush plot, but want to establish some in the plots.

It will work. Keep the grass mowed and it will get established.
I just did it to a section along our warm season grass field for the bunnies and deer to feed on.

Hard to get much established in orchard grass or any kind of grass without killing it first. Why not take the time to kill it this fall and then frost seed next spring and have a good clover plot?
How much clover are you spreading for $100 and 2-3 acres?

He'll get a mixed stand, not a great stand, but better than plain orchard grass.
I'd go the route you suggested, but make a nice 1 acre plot, done right, or 2 half acre plots in different locations.

"How much clover are you spreading for $100 and 2-3 acres? "
If memory serves, it was 25 ls ? Ratio of somewhere around 15 lb Red and 10 lb. Ladino... or was it closer to 20/5 ? The White had a lower (by about half) seed rate per acre as the Red. In other words, you had to seed twice as much Red than the White.
I am not looking to maintain a weed/grass luch plot of ONLY clover. Too much work for me, starting with the herbicide prior to planting, the herbicide for maintenance, the disking, the cultipakcing for seed to soil contact. The mountains of lime it takes to ensure "lush", etc.... then praying for rain. Haha. I just want it mixed in. I know agressive mowing makes it thrive in my yard when the summer heats up. That's all I'm looking for.

I'll add. The Ladino was just north of $6/lb. and the Red just north of $3/lb
I'll also add. The seed rates I got, were for virgin/bare ground. Not for an overseed or frost-seed. Didn't have those particulars. I actually bought a 40 lb bag of pelletized lime and mixed it all in a big tub. Mixing in the lime afforded me the ability to jusdge how much distribution each plot got. Let me gauge better. It worked out very well. Only had to spin out a few clumps.

Seems like a lot of clover seed but you might need that when seeding into grass rather than the 3-4 #'s I use on bare dirt. Usually get ladino for about $5 per pound. Do what you want but I think you're wasting your time personally. Grass of any kind is a pain to deal with and WILL take over if left to it's own devices. At the very least I'd mow it short and disk it to expose some soil.
With a little planning it doesn't take much to maintain a clover plot. Once established, I rarely do anything but mow and occassionaly fertilize and mine are planted in reclaimed strip mines so no lush farm ground. I get 3-4 years out of it and the deer pound it year round. Just MHO though.

To be honest. I'm looking more for some additional variety for rabbits and turkey, not deer. And I don't even hunt rabbits OR turkey. But I have some fellas that do. I'm just a nice guy. LOL.

Mind posting up some pics later this summer? Sure. You can give the "how to" to me when the time comes. Something tells me a first step is... buy a camera.

I frost seed clover, (white), most years with very good luck. I'm glad you posted because I've been so busy I forgot to do it. I'll get it done tomorrow.

I'd love to see what the plot looks like now. I'm wondering how good of a stand you have coming up.
