I'll hunt 5C behind my son's house. It connects to the Game Lands near Warwick, PA., and provides a short drag to his deck for hanging a deer carcass.

I'll head north on Sunday for a week of hunting 2G. My son and grandson will join me on Wednesday. I thought about giving the .58 cal. (24 gauge) smoothbore fowler an opportunity this fall, but my outing on the range Thursday didn't provide a lot of confidence in its 50 yard patterning. It will be used for limb bacon toward the end of the week. The .54 Yorktown gave me a five shot, 2" group at 50 yards, so it will remain my meat maker. Good luck to all you smokepolers!

I remember that shortage of round balls dilemma, and in reconstructing that hunt, I realize my mistake was only shooting at small, high speed wild oinkers. I now carry enough lead spheres and powder to hold off any band of foreign terrorists with smelly smoke and flying lead!

In the bottom photo, you might notice that ole Berks had been thoroughly enjoying that wonderful Tennessee elizir, gently aged in oaken barrels. A great hunt Loggy, thanks to you and your organizational skills, and I'll always appreciate the opportunity to be standing near when your PA mountain rifle barked, and that big sow fell over in her tracks!

Probly we would open up to ALL MLers as a first PFSC event till our site gets a lil bigger to narrow down to only flinters. I did 2 inline hunts there & had a blast in addition to our flinter gathering... Berks & clan...whut you think? I will start a separate Thread just to see whut interest is out there...

It was a meatless week! We saw more deer than acorns, and my son had the frustrating experience of FIVE consecutive flashes-in-the-pan as a doe stood in the middle of a woods road, broadside! The grandson had shooting opportunities, but wisely waited for a standing, broadside within his comfort range with his new rifle, and ended the week without a shot. I saw deer, but they were usually on the other side of the beech brush growth, so the Berks family eats hamburger again this winter! Two dandy bucks were jumped along with a good number of grouse, but we encounter only two grouse hunters and their dogs, and they had one grouse between them. It was an enjoyable week with family, and hope we can continue these hunts for some years to come. I did note that the hill sides in the Tioga State Forest are getting quite a bit steeper!

Enjoyed your hunt report Chuck! My starving Family was hungry for meat so opted to beat the odds on that damp primer pan problem so went to the 209 ignition!! ;D
