While up in Sullivan County this past week noticed that many lakes/ponds already had a skim on. May have an early lock-up this year with the extreme cold just ahead!! How do things look in your neck of the woods??

Don't get me started! It was looking good but the end of this past week set it back. Would love to get on the ice over the holidays and it just may be possible.

I would say by Flintlock Season we should be in good shape up in Northern areas. First ice is normally the best...can't wait!!

Read Jan 4 report on Rose Valley Lake(Lycoming County) at Ice Shanty & reported already 4-5" ice there. My guess Hunters Lake(Sullivan County) has that much or more.
Dale...you ever get by there?

Havent been up by Hunters in a while but Cory was on Rose Valley today. Said there was about 6 to 8 inches of good ice. He was using tip ups and caught a few bass and pickeral. Had a hard time finding shiners ended up getting fat heads. They are a little small for what we like to do but they worked today for him.

Thanks Dale. I fished Rose Valley and seemed shiners were the ticket. I know in the Spring/Summer they get some nice crappies there but never seen any caught through the ice unless im fishing the wrong areas??

Hit and miss on the crappies in the winter for me but then I am not much of jigging person. I usually set ti[p ups and wait. Most days I have good action all day. Even get a couple jumbo perch once in a whle and an occasional walleye usually pickeral and bass tho.

Not that bad Stroupy. I actually catch bigger fish thru the ice on Rose Valley than I do in warmer weather. If this mess today doesnt take the ice you are more than welcome to come up and give it a try.

Thanks for the offer. I am busyer then all heck right now they are going to make me work mandatory overtime again in two weeks and I hate working overtime. rant Plus with the wife being 33 weeks pregnant I am not so sure she would let me go. I would like to think I wear the pants but.... I might take your offer on that sometime next year if the lakes are frozen though! thumbsup
