Spent all day Friday and most of Saturday doing habitat work.
I was a couple weeks early, but, I sprayed a very lite solution of Roundup on all my clover plots, then hit them with more clover seed. I'm hoping the grasses will be killed, as this does a number on grass compared to using Poast.
My main plot, I did not spray, but I did run my disc thru, with blades set straight. This created furrows in the soil and with a strong rain, my seeds will wash into those furrows, and I'll get great germination.
I used Durana, Ladino, and White Dutch clover.
I pruned my semi dwarf apple trees, now 10 years old, and then spread some 10-20-20 fetilizer around them. A Campbells soup can full for each tree. I added more urea to the 10-20-20 to give it more "kick".
Did the same to chinese chesnuts and crabs that were planted 5 years ago and are growing slowly.
Saturday, after doing all my other "stuff", I took the chainsaw and girdled a good number of trees that are shading the many mature apple trees on the neighbors property. Most of them were crabapples. Yeah, makes no sense, but we have crabs out the butt, so, losing a few to save some apple trees may be worth it.
Fertilized some of the mature apples in hopes it helps them, along with additonal sunlight.
Forgot, on of the plots, I mixed some oats in with the clover, as a nurse crop. We'll see how that does.
All in all, got lots done and it felt good.
