I just started reloading this as well. So far I've had pretty good results with Varget. I have some of the Reloader 10X I'm planning to try as well.

27 gr of H335 behind a sierra 52gr match king has shot well in every .223 I've ever had. That's a fairly hot load so you obviously have to work up t it.The match king isn't designed as a hunting bullet but it's flattened every critter I ever put the cross hairs on.
Varget will work well but it doesn't meter as well as H335.I shoot a lot of volume with the .223 so I want a powder that meters well to speed up the reloading process.

I used the 52gr Sierra MK for years in a 22-250 and thumped many hundreds of woodchucks with that load. Only complaint I ever had, was the "toughness" of the jacket, which is why I switched to 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tips years ago.
The Btips are every bit as accurate as the MKs were, but far more frangible.
Ball and flake powders do meter more uniformly than extruded powders (like IMR), which is why I lean towards them in my Lee Progressive, which is what I use for 223 loads now.
Still using 2200 Data Powder from the 8lb jug I got fer cheap some years ago. Forget the equivalent powder that's available these days? 2200 went out of production years ago.

;D Well, if you have any BL-C2 about, give it a try. That powder worked very well in my T\C .223 and the best part was, it's a ball powder. So, I reloaded it in my Hornady LNL progressive and it metered so well that if a round was off my 1/10 of a grain i was surprised. I load Varget for my Savage Carbine .223 with a Hornady 68gr. Varget is such a PITA to load compared to the ball powders. But....it gives me teeny tiny groups....so that's why I load it. ;D

BL was one of the first powders I used when working up 223 loads, along with the 2200 and IMR4064. Fair, at least for me, on the BL-C2?

I'm "old school"... in sporting rifles I use IMR 4198 w/ 22.0 gr. with a 50 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip...superb! For my "day after election day" Ruger Mini 14 I've just laid in a supply of Ramshot X-terminator... it'll meter well and has proven accurate enough.

The best powder to use for YOUR .223 is the powder that works for YOUR .223.
I still have about 400 40gr. V-max bullets left over from my T\C. I shoot these from my new Savage. Now, I get MOA or even a bit more when I shoot a 5 round group.....but for shooting at groundhogs out to 300 yards....these work just fine.
When I want to play sniper and go for one in the 500 yard range....I'm chambering a 68gr. Hornady. ;D
