In Wildlife Management Units 4A, 4D and 5A, an extended firearms season for antlerless deer will be held from Jan. 2 to Jan. 20, running concurrently with the final two weeks of the flintlock and late archery seasons within those WMUs. Chronic Wasting Disease is present in these WMUs and extended seasons are being offered to help meet deer harvest goals there.
Im figuring that during the final two weeks of flintlock/now rifle season all flintlock and archery hunters will have to wear florescent orange. Thanks a lot PGC. Thanks for cutting the late season in half

I think you are probably right about CWD being the reason though. Populations are still good but not what they used to be. Not sure this will do what they want they, the market is pretty saturated.

As far as orange is concerned, flintlock hunters have been exempt from FO even in the extended firearms in the SRAs. Hopefully, flinters will be exempt in this new season as well.

Not sure if I want to be exempt during this period. This sucks. If they want to extend the rife season for doe in these three WMU then it should have been from the close of buck season until Christmas. Or after the close of flintlock until whenever, or both..

That does suck if you hunt the late season in those areas. Doesn't seem like it was well thought out.

Interesting that the BOC supsends the Marten plan saying that they intend to pass it but want more time for hunters to understand the program. This has been in the works for many years with tons of information out there to review. What more can be done to educate hunters on this. Looks like many people oppose the re-introduction and the BOC doesn't want folks saying that they do not listen to hunters, but they want to pass it and according to some commissioners they intend to pass it.

PGC LE has stated that flintlock hunters will not be required to wear FO during this extended firearm’s season.
That has to be one of the stupidest things I’ve heard in 2024. And I’ve heard a lot of stupid this year.

And I’ve heard a lot of stupid this year. We have the same situation already in the SRA's after Christmas. Flintlock hunters do not have to wear orange during the extended firearms season and that is with straight walled cartridges legal now. It has not resulted in more accidents and I would imagine these areas see more hunting pressure than the 3 CWD areas will.

Flinters already share what should be THEIR season, with archery hunters. That's after archery hunters have 6 or 7 weeks of a season in prime weather on a yet to be hunted herd. NOW, they have to share it with RIFLE hunters in certain WMU's.
I don't dress in traditional buckskin garb when flint hunting, but I'm sure more than a few do it. No Orange required, when flinters have to hunt amongst rifle hunters in what should be THEIR late flintlock season, flies in the face of PGC's Orange safety requirement that they are normally so adamant to uphold. STOOPID !

So... Flo Orange either saves lives and prevents accidents, or it doesn't. If it doesn't get rid of Flo Orange requirements. Why be disingenuous and say, "Well we don't wear Orange in XYZ season, and it seems to be fine and dandy safe". STOOPID !

There is no need for Martens. None.

The PGC coloring it as running concurrnt with the flintlock season is laughable. That's no longer a flintlock only rifle opportunity down there during those calendar dates. Its a full blown new rifle season. All arms legal that are legal during the regular rifle season.

And you thought the deer took off at the crack of a twig the second week of rifle? They will see your headlights and you will see tails.

Hey……I thought deer are color blind anyways!! F.O. regs are to provide necessary additional safety when hunters are carrying high powered rifles which significantly extends risk range parameters of accidents vs flinters & archery equipment.
