That's amazing though if deer really are filtering out infected ticks

The tick have become a very big problem already this year. It's hard to spend anytime in the woods for the past few weeks without bring ticks back with you. A trapper I know said he has never seen ticks anywhere close to as bad as they were on the critters he skinned this season.

When I was growing up in western PA I never had a tick on me and I was were rarely inside during the summer. Some of the ground hogs we would shoot had a few, but now the things are everywhere.

When I was a kid the only place we saw ticks was on deer taken upstate. Even deer taken locally didn't have them. Man how that has changed

The first tick I ever actually had dig into me was in 1985 after I spent time around the Octorara reservoir one early spring day. When I mentioned it to a guy I worked with he said it was rare not to find tick on you or your clothing after stomping around in the woods there and everyone used deet to keep them off.

My first upstate deer kill was a Spike in 1991. I was shocked how many ticks it had. I had never seen ticks on a deer before

Sure they weren't Keds ? I've never seen a Ked on any of my deer down here. And don't recall a tick either. Keds are lousy polluted on deer in the northern counties.

I saw very few keds in 2e last year but they were really bad around cook forest for a couple weeks around the end of sept. The only way it was possible to hunt was from inside a blind, where I hunt. Even inside there you'd have a couple come in. Outside they absolutely drove you out of the woods, it was awful. I remember 2003 or 04 was almost as bad

They seem to be worse around hemlocks and laurels when I notice them most.

I never go in the woods anay more without spraying my clothes with Permethrin. I was out scouting yesterday, and even though there was some patches of snow and it was 20 degrees, I saw a few ticks trying to crawl up my pants. They quickly started doing the crazy dance and fell off.
