Anybody else get a packet in the mail, requesting membership for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation ? I got one today. $35, and you get a cheap Browning knife set and 6 issues (1 year ?) of Bugle Magazine. I may join to help out, unless I hear some bad stuff about the org.
I can only assume that all of you guys that have applied for PA's Elk hunt over the years have gotten the membership request ? I mean, that is the prime base to start with if you want to sell memberships. I've never applied for the PA Elk hunt.

I was a member of RMEF for 10 years. I let my membership expire but don't have anyhting bad to say about the org. Pa has one of the largest chapters in the country. The Three Rivers Chapter. They would hold a banquet every year in Cranberry Township at a big hotel and it was awesome. Full sit down dinner, gun raffles, auctions of arts and hunts. I won three guns there over the years. It was well attended by women as well. Just a grand old time. We would get rooms to be able to enjoy adult beverages.

Wow. That's pretty cool, one of the largest chapters being SW PA based. You would think "out west" would have all of the leading chapters.
I mean, a PA Elk Hunt isn't something I would care to do. But the Elk restoration back to PA, is an amazing success story. And by all accounts, everybody involved with the current day program, does one hell of a job managing the herd. Seems their biggest challenge now, is keeping the herd from expanding outside of the designated zones they want them to be contained within ?

I let my membership lapse. Nothing wrong with them and nothing like the NRA. I was just uninspired to continue

I usually get at least one mailing from RMEF asking me to join again. I used to do those western hunts (and others) but at age 82 I am a bit long in the tooth to do that anymore. I still have the memories.

Hmmmm... upon further reading. It appears this solicitation isn't for a PA-centric chapter of RMEF alone, but rather the entire org. as a whole. It makes mention of some PA "projects", and obviously they know I'm a PA license holder. I'm not against helping out national organizations that do fantastic things, like when I was a DU member back in the day. But, I really thought this was specific to a PA membership drive, to help the PA Elk herd. As the "Sharks" say on Shark Tank..... "For That, I'm Out!"

I got that packet yesterday. Yep, for $35 you get a membership, a knife set AND two sheets of pre-typed, personalized address labels. I don't need a yearly membership to anything these days or another set of knives but I can always use address labels!

Got mine yesterday day too. They do this all the time. Offer a knife set of some type if you join, I have a half dozen or so. Haven’t decided if I’ll reup or not. I have more mailing labels than I’ll need, and not sure how good the knives are, never used any of them, most are still in the box they came in. I have always felt their mag was one of the best though.

Attendees at the Three Rivers Chapter Banquet always got a gift for attending. I once got a custom engraved Buck knife with water jet elk hoove cutouts in it. I still use that knife for skinning. For you guys that are members or will be members, you should look at attending one of the banquets in your area. They are a good time. This is usually the time of the year they do them.
