Everyone is different. Archery is a love/hate side of the sport like everything else.

So far the regulars here are 80% on antlered deer. Not too shabby!

I'm no more bothered by bugs in archery season than most any other time of the year. Ticks are always bad. I found a few this past rifle season and I was only out for several hours the entire season. The flying insects can be pretty bad on the warmer than normal days, but a hunter can stay home if he wants, the heat bothers me more than the bugs do.

I don't hunt if it's too warm once it gets colder I go the bugs aren't too bad. The ticks are out in any weather and the deer keds are worse then they ever have been.

The Keds were awful this year. Had to leave the woods because of them.

Ya know, we had 7 hunters this year and two bucks killed, one miss on a buck due to a missing screw in a crossbow, my brother just flat out missed a buck at 60 yds, and my daughter again saw a buck.
Four antlerless killed as well.
Lots of memories made.

I know your poll is only members here. But I just want to add, there were 9 total guys in my crew this year, I was the only one to harvest..... a dink on the 4th day. None of us archery hunt. But that is going to change I believe after this year. LOL If you love to hunt, you will really love archery hunting. Honestly, I'm not much of a hunter/killer any longer. Been there, done that for a LONGGG time. I no longer have the heart to take a female. Friends through the years have told me that is a very common "morhphing" as you grow longer in the tooth ? I look more forward to the "gathering" part of the hunter/gatherer dance.

One of the things I like about flyfishing is that there is rarely any killing involved. Fish are almost never hooked deeply and the live to be fished over another day.
As for being a gatherer, I have always been a mushroom hunter/gatherer. Some of them, like chanterelles, pop at a time of year when the bugs can cause a hunt to be shortened. I also like looking for medicinal plants. I don't dig them, but I do take seeds and plant them around the place.

Longgggggg time Morel hunter in the spring, and sheephead in the fall. Berries in June/July.
I normally can't bring myself to walk the woods in the heat of summer when Chants are popping. My loss there.
Oh and forgot. Ramps in early spring.

So is it true that a small percent of the hunters kill a high percent of the deer? Regulars on this board are at 82% for antlered deer..............

Are you saying we are Alpha hunters? 🙂 Maybe? Its funny that so many complain about no deer yet it seems that those that remain passionate about the sport still do very well, in general.

Always been called leeks where I've dug them. A few patches I've been planting on our land are finally spreading a little. It takes a lot longer than I expected. I think we may still have some in the freezer.

Been out of commission a few weeks dealing with tending to some higher priority family health issues(Mom & Wife) that put hunting on the back burner. In good conscience just couldn't see fit in getting away to camp. Missed season opener first time in 60 years which was tough but did manage to get the last Saturday Regular Season in.....no luck but great to get out. Looking forward to getting a few days flintlock in as things on homefront are looking positive.
