Local news had a story last night about hunters complaining that doe tags were sold out in 2B. One guy said that that must be why there are no deer in the woods, hunters killed them all, lol. For those familiar with 2B, there is no shortage of deer. So the question is why does the PGC limit doe tags in SRAs? 2B only had 53,000 this year.

53,000 is a decrease from the past?
Actually, they increased by 4000 this year

In Allegheny County, and the closest communities to it that are in 2B, it doesn't matter how many antlerless tags are issued. They can issue 2.5 Million tags and the deer still will be overwhelming. Why.... you can't legally hunt in most of those areas where the deer are stacked up. It's the outlying portions of 2B that bear the brunt of 53,000 tags issued. Like the 2B portion across I-70 from me in 2A. And I'm 35 Miles from Pittsburgh-centric.

Why.... you can't legally hunt in most of those areas where the deer are stacked up. You can legally hunt but the problem is safety zones and getting enough permission from adjoining landowners. I will be hunting a tightly packed residential area next fall where adjoining landowners have agreed to allow hunters safety zone access.

Safety Zone issues are EXACTLY what I mean by being able to legally hunt. Slug guns in Allegheny Co are almost completely out per SZ (150 yds). There is little to no chance, a person is going to get every swingin' resident to agree to gun hunting in the smallish woodlots that dot through the residential housing plans. And it only takes a single resident to blow the horn, and there will more than likely be a SZ fine. Bow hunters, with the 50 yard SZ limitation, have a better chance. But even at that, it is a complete challenge to gain access. I won't even go into the fact that "most" folks trying to gain access to these kinds of places, aren't there to help with the herd management issues these communities face. They are there to target the Booners, Toads, and Slammers. All that aside, any small group of hunters like your crew that do gain access, is a comparative drop in the bucket when it comes to the herd management challenges that are faced.
