Yesterday at a little after 4:00, Adriana got her first buck. They heard it coming, it stepped out at 30 yds, and she had the crosshairs on it. Her mom whispered not to shoot, but she misunderstood and thought Mom said shoot. At the shot, Kelly said all she saw was this huge rack pivot and run off!!
The big one came in with the spiker, and was a little behind. They found blood, marked and waited for me. But as Adriana scanned the way the deer ran, she saw something white on the ground. When I arrived, in the fading light, I put the binocs on the white patch 100 yds away, and figured it to be a dead deer. We walked towards it, and that's what it was! The girls, Kate and Adriana hugged each other, and I have to admit, I had a tear in my eye.
It was kinda neat. Kate and I were sitting in a blind, and I got a text, there is a buck in front of us. What seemed like hours to me was just a minute or two, and we heard the shot. Immediately, Kate said, can we go? Of course we did.
So, the plan was to go out again this morning, am d as I type this, both girls are wiped out and need sleep, so, they will leave for home later this morning.
It's been a labor of love getting these girls and their mom out hunting. Kelly is coming back up Wednesday night, so she can go for a doe on a farm north of us. That relationship with the landowner is a result of DennyFs generosity in allowing the girls to hunt on his land. He has no idea what monsters he has helped create! LOL. Thank you Denny.

Coming back to camp, I expressed how special it was for her to get a deer on a Sunday. She asked me if that was unusual. I explained how Kathy and I, at one time, lead the effort, and the threats and crap we put up with. Adriana had no idea, and wondered what the big deal was about hunting on Sunday.
Mind you, they are very religious, but see the family bonding that comes with hunting.
BTW, there was almost no shooting yesterday, so, the supposed huge impact, has not come to pass.

I wish my dad could have been here, but, as we talked this morning, he was. I also like to think that 40 years from now those girls will recounting their adventures with each other. Life is good.

My son came home on friday all giddy after a two week stint in the oil fields. He starts a new job next monday and has all week to hunt.He said that was all he thought about all week.We head up seperatley to Elk county sat morning a couple miles apart.By 7:30 we have three does down and I kill my second one around 10:00am.He helps me get that one out of the woods and loaded by 11:00am.He takes the deer home and I stopped at a buddy's camp real quick to see how they made out.I get home around noon and he's gone. His buddies are home from college and he was gone.I set out alone on sunday and didn't hear from him until the last half hour of the day, when he decided to show up lol.He was gonna push for me and before he even got started,a slammer of a buck and a doe showed up and fed around me.I killed the doe and had it loaded before he ever showed up.It's past noon right now and he still hasn't left the house.I'm thinking he isn't gonna do much hunting this week unless I'm with him.Enjoy them when they're young because the distractions don't get any better.

I had a buck just like that chasing two does in front of me yesterday. They were running, hopping and kicking. They wanted no part of him. It was like watching kids running around a schoolyard.

Well,he decided to go out around 3:00 yesterday and called me at 4:45 while I was at work to see if I'd help him get another one out of the woods. He was almost out of the woods when I got there and broke it all down by himself. It was the first deer that he's killed since he was 7 that I didn't have to lift a finger. He even disposed of a bunch of hides and bones today.
