Two years ago,I sent a perfectly good Kimber Montana .308 to JES reboring to get rebored to .338 fed.I got it back, put a VX2 on it that I had laying around and couldn't get it shoot worth a darn.I went through multiple powders and whatever bullets I could find and ended up with a 4" moa rifle.I did kill a doe with it last year but the scope fogged up the second day.I sent it back and they fixed it up.I ended up putting a different sightron on it that I know is good and hit the range last week.It still sucked as did every ther rifle that I shot that day.I was beside myself.Yesterday,I didn't go to the PGC range where they have slick steel shooting benches.I went to our sportman's club range where they have adjustable seats and concrete tables.I shot two creedmoors that both shot into 1/2 inch at 100 yards.I shot 200gr SST's out of the .338 fed and 180gr accubonds at 50 yards. The SST's shot into one ragged hole and the accubonds shot literall into the same hole.I took one shot with each load at 100 yards just to verfify and they were both dead on.I can't figure out if it was all in my head or the benches made that much of a difference.I do always shoot better at the sportsman's club.I also stopped the hydrant in my barn from leaking yesteray so it wa sa good day.The simple thing in life matter the most.

If I'm not on sandbags my groups suffer. I like four bags in the front and two in the rear. A wobbly bench will show up in my shooting too. Give me a solid bench, solid seat, and my sandbags and then I can tell you what the rifle is capable of

I generally use a rifle rest we used when shooting at 1000 yds, and a V bag in the rear.
The other day I used a Harris Bipod maybe 6 inches? To check my zero. I do like that, really steadies the front

I made a bunch of sandbags years ago by cutting up old jeans, sewing the ends and filling them with sand.
I had some interesting results this past season.I killed two doe with 140 gr accubonds out of the creedmoore. One doe crumbled and the other one made a short 50 yard dash. Both were standing broadside shots at +/- 60 yards.Almost identical entry and exit wound but slightly different results.Exit wounds were about quarter size which were much smaller than the usual exit wounds with 140gr interlocks.I also killed a doe at about 120 yards with the .338 Fed and 200gt SST's.I hit it behind the shoulder and it made a fist sized exit out the neck. She ran about 30 yards and then fell and got up a few times before crashing for good.I had some 175gr hammer bullets laying around so I loaded up 15 last week and hit the range before work friday morning. Two shots touching but about three inches high and two inches to the right.I made a few adjustments and the third shot landed right where I wanted.I was walking back saturday afternoon and ran into three doe about 100 yards out.I picked the biggets one and shot. She took off towards me and just stopped after about 50 yards.I thought I missed and was about to shoot again when she stumbled and then ran around in a couple of tight circles before dropping. She was probably down within 10-15 seconds.Perfect shot through both lungs with about a half dollar sized exit wound. You just never know what they're gonna do after you hit em,but you don't need a cannon cause the pip squeaks kill them just as fast if you hit them right. The same applies to broadheads.

I was talking to a farmer up the road from where we rifle hunt and he said his son in law bought his wife a new 300 PRC rifle. I heard of it but wasn;t familiar with the chambering. Holy smokes. A 375 Ruger necked down to 30 caliber and they only plan to use it for deer. His wife is like 130 pounds but she wanted something to reach out and touch them in the hayfield, lol. I can't imagine her shooting that but apaparently she has shot two does so far with it. 201 grain bullet.

I'm pretty sure the case is essentially a Rem SAUM,which would make it slightly less powerful than a 300 wsm.I've killed a crap ton with te 300 wsm

My .300 wsm is a Kimber Montana, which is about as light as you'll find.I don't find the recoil to be obnoxious. My son killed deer with it when he was 14 or 15.It's not needed for the distances we generally hunt so I hardly ever use it.I did kill a bear with it last year.

300 PRC is a bit radical for deer. A 6.5 PRC would've been a more sane choice. Same results with less recoil

It's significantly more than the short mags

Yeah,I went and looked it up yesterday and I was wrong.I thought the 6.5 PRC was based on the SAUM

I have a really good load for my .338 Fed shooting 180gr accubonds.I've been trying to find some since covid and strike out every week when I look.Yesterday,I went shopping with my wife and son in Altoona. On the way,we stopped at grices so I could pick up some .240gr .44 cal bullets and they had a whole shelf full of 180gr accubonds. The shelves were still pretty bare and I've probably checked grices a dozen times in the past 3 years. Not cheap at .67/box but I scored on two boxes and plan on going back next week for a couple more.I almost sold that rifle because that load was the only one I really liked.

Ammo and components are going up 5% starting January 1 because of "perceived shortages". Get your supplies now

I was inline yesterday behind one guy that had 20 cases of shotgun shells
Another guy had three huge containers of pistol powder, I think he said they were around $350 a piece

I have a 6 inch Harris Bipod that I use sometimes. Probably should use it more as it is more solid than sandbags.
Will use it Saturday when I shoot again.
