My nephew bought his wife a heated vest for Christmas last year. She's always cold and loves the thing.
Yesterday, I ordered one for my daughter, her birthday is coming up. I told her and she's happy about it because she will be able to stay out hunting longer.
It really is amazing how many heated products are out there now. Just saw a heated seat for hunting blinds.
I remember hunting and freezing, in jeans, in the snow, when I was a kid.Things have come far

I froze my ass off hunting when I was young. I didn't have an ounce of fat on me back then. Now that I'm fat I'm mostly impervious to the cold

Kids should have to wait till they are 12 to hunt, stand in the cold next to a tree by themselves with a flannel jacket and tennis shoes, and use a open sighted 30/30, lol.

I did suffer some when I was a kid learning to hunt, but I loved it.

Kids should have to wait till they are 12 to hunt, stand in the cold next to a tree by themselves with a flannel jacket and tennis shoes, and use a open sighted 30/30, lol. Yeah, that sounds about right. 😂 My great nieces sat in wooden blinds offered to them by Denny's neighbors. They have also used cloth blinds, and killed a deer out of one of them last year. They are hunting a very deer rich environment. We talked to one landowner and he lamented that very few still hunt this area. He wants kids to be successful, he wants the future of hunting to continue. It was refreshing to talk with him. I have 420 acres leased, and because it's beside a state Forest DMAP area, we rarely shoot a doe. Trail cameras show me the composition of the herd, and it ain't great. So we send kids out into forests to sit on a stump, and rarely see a deer? Heck, even the adults are giving it up. My own brother, who grew up when there were herds of deer on state forests said these girls are going to be spoiled. I almost exploded on him. This youth doe season has been the highlight of our hunting season. It's incredible family time, with three generations participating. It's going to end when they are 17, but I hope they continue on. This season actually brought three new hunters to hunting. Their mom killed a doe, being a mentored adult last year. Moms support has been huge. It's been a great experience watching this all unfold. Thank you Mr Fillmore!

I just don't understand the folks that feel that kids should have to put their dues in to hunt and be successful. We are all a dying breed, yet some hunters want just can't get their heads around the simple concept. I don't care who hunts with what, how they hunt, where they hunt or at what age they do it. I am so haqppy to see people hunting and enthusiastic about the sport.

To each his own. While I never mentored a little girl, and I'm sure a different approach is needed,I have a fair amount of experience mentoring a boy.As a father.I spoiled him in many ways but was also kinda hard on him.It was my job to make him into a man and quite honestly,I didn't tolerate mental or physical weakness.I certainly didn't baby him in any way.I always gave credit where credit was due but also smacked him upside the head when he needed it.When he begged me to hunt,I made him work at it and I decided that he'd have to learn to hunt the way I hunted.Kids are very capable if given the chance and not a single time did he ever complain about being bored or asked to go home early.I always felt success tasted much sweeter after you failed and after you really put some effort into it.It really is about the journey and if you lose sight of that, there's no reason to hunt. When he was young,he used to come home from school and ask me why some of his teachers claimed there was no deer and why they hated the game commission.A couple of them actually insinuated to him that we were poachers.I just explained to him that there were hunters and there were gathers. Most of the gatherers voted for Obama.I am most certainly in the camp that I expected my son to pay his dues to be successful. If you were to ask him today,he'd tell you that he was glad I mentored him that way.

On those "very rare" frigid cold occasions least as experienced in recents years I take my Mr Heater Buddy(pic below) portable heater when hunting out of my ground blinds. I originally bought for ice fishing which also has become a rare event too!! lol

The 20lb tank fits right perfectly into a milk crate so that keeps it for tipping. Really nice on those cold morning.

I get about 1.5 days out of a standard 1lb propane cannister(low setting). Plenty to break the chill in a small blind. Also have a 20lb propane tank adapter hose/tank like CS uses on his boat.

Manual says 6 hours continuous on the lowest setting(4,000 btu) but with the easy on/off built-in piezo igniter I cycle on/off during day to extend bottle usage.
