Took them shooting today. What a difference in the two years since they started hunting. This target is 50 yds off shooting sticks. Kate, on the left shot my rifle, and did much better than Adriana. When they shot at 100 yds for the first time ever, Adriana didn't do real well. Kate did great. When Kate shot Adrianas gun, she did terrible. We think they just aren't used to the lighter trigger. That will be worked on.

I went to their school volleyball game yesterday afternoon. A woman behind me tapped me on my shoulder and asked, "Will they be getting their deer next week"? 😂 Only later did I find out she knew who I was, and I only knew of her.
They go to a Christian school. In the next three weeks, they have 8 days scheduled for deer hunting, with the schools blessing. When they come back from hunting, teachers and classmates ask how they did and encourage them to tell their stories.
Think that would ever happen in any downstate suburban public school? Nope.

I know when I went to our local small town public schools never had a problem getting requested excused absenses for missing school for hunting activities. Many teachers along with principals were also taking off for hunting. My Daughter currently is a public school teacher and same flexibilty exists today least in my area. I know my parents always did an early June family bear hunting/fishing trip to Canada and would request well in advance for my absence last week of school which was always granted. Likely not same flexibility exists in big city school districts.

Thirteen year old Adriana updated the family calendar for this week. Gotta love it. This week has become the highlight of the family's hunting season 🙂🙂🙂

Deer were seen today, but no shots. Adriana, the oldest, decided she wanted to hunt my lease, she wants a buck. Her and her dad spent the day out in the woods,no deer seen, but she loved being out. Oh, while they were on stand, a bear triggered a camera only 125 yds away.
Kate sat with her grandfather, my brother and had does at 40 yds, but no ethical shot. They did see a group of deer at 275 yds, 7 were small bucks. She was happy because she saw some deer and spent time with her grandpa!
I went into their bedroom just before they went to sleep and told them how much I loved having them in camp. Adriana said,You do? I told them it's the highpoint of my hunting during the year. They both just gave me a big smile.
I'm a very fortunate person. Life is good

I'm gonna hazard a guess and say a minimum of 150 pounds dressed weight.

Adriana hit her on the first shot at about 65 yds. The doe ran to 90 and stopped. I was thinking it was gonna drop. Adriana shot her again and she dropped like a ton of bricks. After that, there was a whole lot of shaking going on!! LOL

That's a photo to look at in years to come, and reminisce.. It sure is. The one sister ran towards Adriana, Adriana ran towards Kate, and they hugged when they met. It was neat to see how happy they were for each other.

This afternoon, before they went home, as a family, they were vacuum sealing the meat from the second deer. Just does an older boys heart good.

She was big, probably 125 or so? That's a heavy doe. We have killed several at Camp Rip-And-Tear that exceeded 150. It is much more common than it used to be. I can remember when an average buck weighed about 110 and an average doe was 70 or so. All were skinny. Our deer today are rolling fat. This is a nice thing to see.

The deer these girls killed had good amounts of fat, that's for sure.
