Don't know if you noticed, Loggy, but this is a mighty quiet board. Thanks to people who whine everytime a thread goes off topic. And those who like the fact that they whined For some reason, outdoor issues are no longer really on my radar.I don't know if I'm just old and past my prime, sick of arguing or just realized that it doesn't matter.I'll carve out some weekends to hunt this year and that's good enough.I'm sure along the way some deer will die and I hope to spend some time out there with my son but those days are probably numbered this year.My entire outlook on everything has changed over the pat 3-4 years.Just watching some sunrises and a few sunsets will be good enough.

I'm just tired of hearing how these are the greatest days ever of PA hunting. What made hunting great was never the size of the antlers. It was the participation and the buzz surrounding it. It was filling a 25 man roster at Bear and Deer Camp. It was everybody heading down to the Camp with the TV or the local watering hole to catch the Eagles game while chilling with the guys on Sundays. It was small game hunters on every farm at 8am opening morning. Those days are gone and a lot of the fun of it all went with it

The only thing I miss about those wonderful "old days" is being young enough to do the things I did back then. Regardless of how some perceive it, In my opinion the deer hunting today is the best it has ever been. I've killed enough bucks and does that it won't matter much if I never kill another one. I just enjoy being out there and seeing what nature has to offer, and she has plenty if one can get past the "I wants." We still have a good group of guys who get together to hunt, and the camraderie is there. The biggest tragedy is that when I was younger I didn't have time to hunt anywhere near as much as I wanted to. The seasons were shorter, and the only days I could go (due to a job) were Saturdays, the occasional holiday, and the first day of buck season. Now that I have the time, I lack the energy I had then. Still, I am looking forward to this year with great anticipation. I'm planning the camp menu, thinking about were to set up to hunt, and practicing my shooting. Nothing much has changed there, just the amount of gray hair. If I am tired of anything, it is the grousing about why it isn't to some people's liking. I think they would probably gripe if they were hung with a new rope.

Oh, and one other thing I miss, and I miss it most of all. That is not having just one more kid to mentor.

Not only would I gripe, I'd cuss a blue streak if I were hung with a new rope. Or an old one

I go to HPA and see guys bitching about everything. Hunting. Politics etc.
I'm over their BS. I'm tired of the far right and the far left. I'm tired of the PGC.
I spent too much of my life working and not getting time to do what I wanted, and now I'm going to enjoy what time I have left. And if that means leaving behind the bitching and whining, then I will do that. If it means leaving behind people that complain and whine all the time, then I will do that also.
Our camp has been invigorated by two young girls and now their mother, who all hunt. Last fall the mother was a mentored adult Hunter and we introduced her to pheasant hunting as well. She went along to experience the pheasant hunting and watched as we killed a couple of birds and it just excited her.
I get a kick out of her daughters and their enthusiasm, of course, due to the generosity of a couple of landowners who have numbers of deer, they have been relatively successful. That's success breeds more excitement and anticipation, which creates excitement in their old great uncle.
So, life is good, and I look forward to the fall season.

Your last sentence says it all Dutch!! In just a few short weeks I plan to get out in the big mountains a few days in the Special Firearms where as a Senior or Junior there's opportunity to hunt both Antlerless & Bear and carry a centerfire if desired! Thinking back to years past something one wouldn't have even dreamed of. No PGC gripes here!

My problem is me, mostly due to physical ability, which has affectived the desire. For the most part I don't like change, though some of it has been good, and so much has changed. The excitement is gone, what is left of the fire has burned down to embers, it is what it is. I will still hunt some this season, God willing, but not near as hard or near as long.

I have the 1997 Season of the Red Green show on a set of discs. I first became aware of the show when a guy in a furniture store took one look at me and said, "Why, there is Red Green." I guess I do bear a slight resemblence to Steve Smith, and I do have a set of Red Green suspenders.

Maybe the PGC should be asked, at one of these town hall meetings, why they don't offer a Jones hat in their online store?

No tv in camp just a weatherband and ole Sony am/fm radio tuned into I-105 Williamsport Country! Been that way for almost 70 years. Also….no internet. Almost Heaven!!😇
