I posted before about our city manager getting indicted for alledgedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars.Every week, more comes out about how corrupt our small city has been run. It's recently come out that the city council paid 274k for this guys defense and his contract was guaranteed for 10 years. The council voted in favor of terminating his contract but agrred to pay him over 500k for the remainder. He also negotiated that his pension would be 90% of his highest years earnings. His salary was over $170k with bonus which is about 60k more than Philly or Pitt managers. For their efforts, the people on city council got free healthcare, had their deductibles paid and also recieved pensions lol. This guy was also the director of the United way and a few months ago, someone pulled 93k in cash out of the ceiling tiles in his old office there and handed it over to the police chief. So far,no explanation has been given on where it came from or why it was there. Two weeks ago,the AG did say that more charges were coming. In any event, some citizens got together and put a write in campaign for two two city council positions last april and booted two of the council people out along with the mayor. They also started a go fund me and raised enough money to file an injuction to keep the city from paying the rest of the contract out to this pos. There was a hearing today, and the injuction may work.Point is,if people work together, they can make a difference. It's pretty refreshing to see it happen on a small scale like this.

Lots of corrution to go around. As I always say, the rot has to be cored out from within. People on the inside know but turn a blind eye to it when they see it.

Dubois was always run like a crime family and he was at the top.I have friends who work for and in the city and I always knew it was bad.A customer of mine was the old city manager when this guy was the mayor. He quit a few years before he was able to retire because he said some day they would come in and haul everyone out in cuffs. This goes pretty deep.He ran for state senator and lost in a landslide but Scarnatti was a huge backer. He actually donated 350k to his campaign. That's not just goodwill. That's an investment.I have a sneaky suspicion that our scum bag solicitor will also go down like a Chineese spy balloon.Regardless, the people have taken the bull by the horns and it's making a difference.

This needs to happen at every level. The people need to take this country back.I don't say this from a political standpoint as all of these scum bags are Republicans being smoked out by a Dem AG.

Sounds like they also had a tax fraud investgation re he was deducting "reimbursed expenses" on his tax returns as unreimbursed business expenses. Also, the money stolen for personal uses would be reportable income on his tax returns. Not sure if it was or not. If all this is proven true......he's in BIG, BIG trouble. Be interesting to read the 36 page AG charging document once unsealed. Hats' off to all involved both locally & LE for their efforts in seeing that justice is served!

There's definately tax fraud issues. This is just the beginning and I speculate that it will go much deeper with bigger fish than him. He's a big fat pos that has more chins than a Chinnese phonebook. He was dating this much younger, very good looking girl at one of the banks. The AG raided her office and they got married a few months ago so they couldn't testify against each other. This is just the tip of the iceburg. The fraud is in the millions.

The city has recieved million of dollars in grant money over the years and this is a very nice small city.We have parks and baseball fields that would rival minor league stadiums.I think people see that and just assumed everyone was doing a good job.The city and twp surrounding the city were in the middle of consolidating. An injuction to stop that has been fled because if any of that grant money was missapropriated,it will have to be paid back. The twp doesn't want involved with that.
I know some of these people but always kept them at a distance.A few years ago, they did a huge sidewalk project with grant money. There's one contractor that gets 100% of the bids.I know him personally and get along with him but always knew something wasn't right. After the project was completed, they had a huge bash at his camp, complete with strippers and all kinds of fun things.I asked where they got the money and was told, leftover funds from the sidewalk project lol.A buddy of mine is an HVAC contractor. He sent Herm a bill after putting in a new furnace.Herm called him bitching and said if he wants to continue getting work from the city, the bill goes to the city.He hung up and sent him another bill.I always knew that kinda crap went on but never knew how bad it actually was.

Stuff like this the reason so many politicians fight to keep the number of IRS agents low. They don't want themselves or their friends investigated. One report I read claims that between 3 and eight dollars are recovered in unpaid taxes for every dollar spent in costs.

LOL!!! Amazing how may people are gullible enough to believe such nonsense spewed by polititians in their efforts to thwart increase in IRS enforcement.

It seems to me the IRS, with limited agents, would go where the money is, not a waitress. They would go for the wealthy. Wasted time going after someone making less than half a million

When I retired 9 years ago the IRS was just getting their Global High Wealth Division off the ground. This division was geared toward multi million/billionaires with highly complex tax returns. Such sometimes involves offshore investments, tax havens, multi-tier corporate/Subchapter S and Parnership comglomerates including other sophisticated equity investments. In his opposition of increased IRS funding.... Speaker McCarthy said the IRS was looking to beef-up Agents to go after waitresses..... I almost fell off my chair laughing!! Doug's example here is just a small sampling of what's going on out there which bottomlone translates into honest taxpayers paying more than their share of the bill.

Almost every small contractor, single person company hides it's cash jobs. They are too small to go after by the IRS.
If I hid $4000 a year, what's the taxes, a few hundred? They weren't coming for me.
What many contractors didn't realize, that unless they invested that money, they were screwing themselves when it came to Social Security time.

Guess you know that Fairtax supports total elimination of the statute(IRC Code) that affords your self/employer funded pension plan's tax generous tax deferral benefit?? I do agree with that inasmuch why should other taxpayers be burdened by paying for something that doesn't benefit them if not electing such. IMO...this deferral should reset to fully to "After Tax" in "Fairness" to all.

My kids were both made to get jobs when they turned 15.They never made much money working these part time jobs so taxes flew under their radar. Both are now out in the world working full time jobs and they're flabergasted at how hard they're taxed. My daughter works for an agency taking care of special needs people and get's about 20 hours of overtime most weeks. My son is working away from home in the gas industry and makes stupid money, most of which is overtime. We went out to see him yesterday as he hasn't been home in about three weeks. In the past two weeks,he's worked over 160 hours so he's seeing how that overtime money get's hammered. They've both listened to me bitch about it for the past 20+ years and now they see why. It's not a fair system.

The tax system is against the working person who draws a payroll check, always has. Unless your self employed, own a business, when the tax man calls, you’re screwed.

The working class gets screwed by the very wealthiest and those who will not work. It has gotten work in the last couple decades. Abolishing the IRS will never, and should never, happen.
Tax laws, and the collection of owed taxes, should be made simpler and consequences for failing to pay what is owed should make the risks far greater than what may be gained.

Try being self-emplyed.I've been self-employed for most of my adult life and I get taxed to death.I get to pay double social security as well as Fica taxes and unemployment taxes on any emplyees.I was always 1099'd with static business expenses so there's no hiding income or getting any special breaks.

If Sales tax was the only form of tax collection much of the economy would be driven under the table and it would be unfair to those who have to spend nearly all they earn just to make ends meet. I believe everyone should pay the same percentage of every dollar they earn, weather though labor or capital gains both long and short term.
