There's ample evidence that the Gov't has been weaponizing Gov't agencies against the people.Anyone who thinks the American people shouldn't be able to defend themselves againt their own Gov't is a fool. If the day that some militant types seem to be eagerly awaiting ever comes, I expect private gun ownership will be a thing of the past when the dust settles. Depends on who wins |

Oh, I would certainly believe a slight few truly "innocent" folks are caught in crossfire. I'd think the percentage is quite low as compared to the number of gang-bangers getting whacked.

A lot of those shooting statistics in Chicago involve children getting hit. This isn't all outside shootings. A lot take place indoors with bullets whizzing through walls into the next door apartment

I'm not a religious person, but was raised in the Church, understood the 10 Commandments, but we have gotten so far away from that upbringing that people just don't care about others.
When I was in school in the 60s and 70s, we got paddled. Some teachers, just flat out punched us in the chest, or gave a swat to the head. We understood that punishment was swift, and often unpleasant. We learned respect.
Today, the bullies are coddled, parents are quick to beech or sue if little Johnnie gets a whooping, that's deserved.
Don't get me wrong, many, many great people in this world, but we are slowly going down the wrong path

Parents need to realize that failing to discipline and hold the kid accountable is a form of neglect. I believe neglectful parents are beginning to outnumber responsible parents. Parents refusing to believe that their little johnny/janey is capable of doing something wrong are almost as bad.
Add that sad fact to all the baby-daddies/baby-mommas instead of fathers and mothers and grandparents raising the wild oats that their daughters have sown, and it's little wonder we are in the shape we are.
Society is falling fast because the fabric of American family is being torn to shreds.
Schools are the only place many kids receive any structure in their lives. We need to make them at least feel safe there.

Bottom line. It is much easier to blame the gun owners and "do something" about violence by banning some type of firearm than it is to actually deal with the causes of the problem. Those causes do not include any honest and law-abiding person owning any particular type of weapon. A few of them are noted in Dutch's and Rusty's posts. We should also include such things as violent video games, and movies and TV shows that glorify violence. Of course banning some sort of gun feels good to some. In the long run, it will do nothing to eliminate violence.

I agree 100% with mutts point about violence in video games, movies, and entertainment(mma for instance) where it is celebrated and glorified. Added in neglectful/absent parents and I doubt there is a more effective way to cultivate a violent child.
That is the America we have made and we are living with the the results.
It is because of this that I am one who favors the banning of semiautomatic centerfire rifles and high capacity mags.
Most of us have said there is a larger number of sick people in our country than ever and there are very few methods for causing quick mass casualties as easily obtainable than these weapons.
I know this is a ery unpopular position for a gun owning American to take, but I would feel I'd be dishonest to pretend it's not how I see things.
The violence may continue but the number dad will be lower.

That shooter killed 6 people and could have easily accomplished that with a any firearm,even a single shot.If I were gonna try to reak as much havoc as possible,I'd go in with an unplugged 12ga pump and a couple 9mm handguns.The type of gun has nothing to do with the problem.

I sometimes watch shows from the 60s, westerns, etc. When someone was shot, no blood, no gore.
Go to a modern movie these days, the more gore the better....

If there is money to be made by feeding the appetite for violent entertainment, the desire for profits trumps the concern for the health of young minds. And raising well-adjusted children takes more effort than letting them fend for themselves and have their fertile minds polluted by the values and morals gleaned from what they see and read on the internet. A couple generations have been let down by Americas desire for entertainment and material possessions.
If we wonder what has become of us, jealousy, greed, hatred, and division rules the country.

I agree that the wacky focus on sexual perversions is way out of hand, but I don't believe it has much to do with the mass murders that have become so common, most of these killers have been heterosexual.
