I'm not in the market for any guns and haven't been in a while.I just got done browsing Grice's site and about crapped a brick and threw it through my window. What I would consider mediocre rifles are now mostly over $1K.Even compound bows are right around the 1K mark with cossbows exceeding that by a big margin.I have a gun for just about every purpose and over the past 10 years, made sure my son was set as well.Simply insane.

The other week I was shooting a 243 Savage Axis. $350 gun. Shot decent groups, didn't weigh much. My brother says to me, why buy a $1200 gun?
Guess I'm just getting cheap, or smarter, but I had to agree

I can't find Marlin and Winchester 30-30 rifles for under $700 anymore. And anything nice is up towards a grand. I used to buy them for $125-250 bucks and flip them when I got bored. Now I can no longer afford them

Last new gun I bought was my Browning X-Bolt Stalker 6.5 Creedmoor Janauary 2020. I paid $770 at a Browning Dealer. I see Grices has it now listed online for $879....a $100 or 13% increase which averages about 4%/per year. I really thought in 3 years it would be over a grand? Most other online dealers also have it listed for under $900. Grices Browning X-Bolt 6.5CM

The blued/walnut guns of the past have become gold. The levers and pumps have taken the biggest jump. I sold a Remington 760 Carbine in .308 on HPA last summer for $1,100 and guys on that site are still talking about what a good deal that was. I think it lasted most of one day in the Classifieds there

Is that fact that Rem no longer makes their centerfire pumps driving the price up??
Over the years I've owned a Model 76(Sportsman 30-06), Dad's Model 6(30-06) and a 7600(35 Whelen)...all wood stocks. They were sorta purdy to look at but found them noisy to carry plus not as accurate as a decent bolt action. Accuracy was pretty good for a pump though. Have no desire to ever buy another.

I remember Grices selling them for $399 back in the 90's.I never owned one but always found the wood/blued to be nice looking rifles.

The 7600's are very pricey for sure. I own 2 model 14's a 30cal, and 35 Rem. 1914 and 1923 respectively. These are the 7,600's Grandfather. They shot tacks, very solid rifles.

Yes the fact that you can't go buy a new one causes hysteria. Can't buy a new Rem 7600 or Marlin 336 so prices go through the roof. You can get a new 94 Winchester but it says "made in Japan" so prices go through the roof on the old ones.

My Browning X-Bolt is made by Miroku(Japan). Looked up the current 94's & the below is stamped on their barrels. Sorta funny as years roll by & for some reason Browning stops their Jap manufacturing...then their prices will go crazy. BTW....I'm really impresssed with Jap Brownings & likely their Wins are good!! Same thing now with high end fishing reels.... the best are now coming out of Japan(Shimanos etc) but they will hit your wallet big time. At one time Jap was junk...no longer.

The new winchesters are outstanding. Likely the best they've been since the 50s. But hardly anybody buys them because they're made in Japan. And the model 70 is made in Portugal. They still sell. But bolt action guys may not be as purist as lever guys. I don't know

Yep.....my Dad also left me his Browning Belgium Made "Buck Special" barrel he had for his A-5. He hunted an area in VA that was "Buckshot Only" for a number of years. I went with Dad on some of those hunts but was underage. He killed quite a few bucks with that Buck Special bbl. It's special bore also threw slugs pretty good but only a very small area in VA near the BS only area allowed them in flat areas near coast back then. The Belgium stuff is top shelf.
