I know a PRB will kill a whitetail with no problems. Shot placement (just like any weapon) is key to success. But I like to shoot Conicals from my flintier's as loading a PRB while keeping the patch centered is, at times, a challenge with my left hand....and for sure in the cold. So, if I can avoid loading something with a patch it's much better for me. I purchased some 435gr "Mini's" (which is far more weight that is needed for a whitetail....but it will do the job!) and the problem I found was the diameter (they have a hollow base) as the come is .535 and they drop to the bottom of the barrel without the need of a ramrod! Mebby good for target, but not for hunting. So, using a Lee Universal expander plug...along with a base attachment from a Lee 44mag lead sizer, I adjusted the expander die, put the Mini on the "base" and ran the Mini's into the expander die. The result was expanding the base diameter from .535 to .547. And that held the Mini in the tube!! Results shooting at 100yds today. First pic...three shot group. Second one after moving the sight. I got my hunting load!!

Nice shooting there Dave!! Looks like you're getting a good gas seal due to the conicals hollow base and its obturation which helps engage the rifling. I shoot the 460 grain No Excuses out of my Custon White Super 91 .504 Caliber inline. The heavy conicals are basically a "Slip-Fit" principle which is the foundation under Doc White built all his muzzlers. Easy loading is a big advantage for sure!!
