This is a pic of a person trying to figure out the app and get the camera up and running....as it's taking pics of him. He really is an azz sometimes. 😂 View AttachmentHow difficult is the set up, Dutch? Can somebody of below average tech knowledge do it easily, or will I have to get one of my kids to do it?

I actually brought my trapping stuff up with me yesterday. But then I began to think…ok…should I trap one that night, I could not come the next day to deal with it. And really, Saturday…yeah…but we have a planned event Saturday evening & I’d be very tired if I did the trip up Saturday.
So, I tossed the trapping idea for now. The next two weeks are pretty much free so that may be possible. I’ll see how it goes.

I've been hunting.....or I should say... I've been out in the woods. This is a pic of where I hunt. I you look at the red line, that's the path I drove my cart on last night at just 15 minutes before dusk. I know that the last 15 minutes will usually find the best deer movement. But, I was sitting at the point in the woods for 3.5 hours.....and I saw 2 squirrels. That was it...so I decided to move and look. Now, I've hunted this property for ten plus years and there are always deer around.....always!! The measurement of 475 yards is where I was glassing that field opposite the property I can hunt. There were two dozen deer over there, including 2 bucks that I could see. Now...if you look at the red line, that's the path I took (starting at 5:15) around the property. I saw zero deer on the property!! Not one!! This is the first time something like this has ever occurred. Now, the second pic (of course....with all the pic quality I'm noted for) is me at the "start" of my cruise looking for deer or deer sign (deer sign as in white flags running away from me). I've never had my trail cam's get pics of coyotes almost nightly. I know the coyotes are denning in an area that's thick, rocky, and only where young men can traverse. I'm now convinced that these coyotes (it's a pack of 4-5, possibly more) are "chasing" the deer from this property. Well...I got no other reason for it. Ten years of deer everywhere and suddenly nothing!! The only change is the number of coyotes. So....here's my question: Do you think I'm right in thinking these dogs are keeping the deer away? I know coyotes can go the easy 475 yards "across the road".....but I'm thinking because of their den location, the deer are avoiding being close to the den. What say ye hunters of the land?

I think you got it right Dave!! With the yotes denning area in the immediate area you hunt is an area deer are not going to hangout in. My guess the whole area is polluted with yote scent which isn't good. A possible option would be to try to get permission to hunt property across road?? Another option would be to get rid of those yotes....easier said than done!!

I've got some "me time" in the next few weeks, I'll let you know iffin I have any success. The property across the road is already leased by a small group of primarily rifle hunters.

With Fridays projected 3” of rain…today is likely not the best time to set traps.

Maybe prebaiting a couple dirt holes now would make your sets produce faster when you get around to bedding your traps. It should be easy to get some deer fat and trimmings if you know anyone who butchers their own deer.

With the amount of rain they are calling for, a dirt hole will just fill with water. I like to use a tree branch, about 3-3.5” in diameter, hollow it out with a 1.5” drill…not the entire way through….drill a hole for a peg… then take a fallen tree limb with a Y to guide em in. The hollowed out limb drains right away if a big rain occurs…and the bait stays “baity”.

Got up this am and the first thing I did was look at any pics my camera would have sent. Still a bit bleary eyed I told my Mr.s....hey..look at the size of this bucks rack!! She then proceeded to "enlighten" me.

308 will be perfect for the job. Swede is under gunned, 47-70 is over gunned

I know from shooting doe in the past that the 45-70 will drop em on the spot. I’m good with that.

That made it perfectly clear...as the Mississippi river after a two week heavy rain. All I got from that article is "if we can prompt the hunter to provide the correct answers that we want, then we will give a ticket. The camera alerted you that game was in the area? If you don't know that when you setup.....why are you there? I KNOW there are deer where I hunt. I have 'em on trail cam's at various times, I see deer track, I see deer poup, I even see actual deer. The camera has nothing to do with me "chasing" a deer. The camera sent me a notice of game in the area. How in the world is anyone going to prove that I checked the notice? How would a Warden know I even have my phone with me? (Of course, I always have my phone with me as my wife can pinpoint where I am in case I'm late and she begins to worry.)
