I bought a $65 Browning and I am impressed thus far. Time will tell. I never had luck with trail cameras over the years.

My Moultrie was built by Nancy Regans great grandmother. Attacked by a roving hoard of beavers…and the pics are still clear. At least….I think so. 😊

I'm running 4 Muddy cams that I bought for $25 ea. and a 2021 model Covert Blackhawk LTE Cell cam, got a deal on that as well on Ebay. $185 with free shipping. The Muddy's work well but take a ton of pictures of nothing. The new Covert takes great pics in comparison to the 2018 model I just retired as it was eating batteries.

Are trailcams that send emails or text alerts real-time, allowed in PA ? I would think not ?

Are trailcams that send emails or text alerts real-time, allowed in PA ? I would think not ? Yeah…IIRC…as long as you are not using them “to actively hunt” your good. But I’ve always thought if you are using the camera for hunting….you can’t be that good at sneaking within bow range anyway.

Well, sneaking within gun range would be no problemo. Flat out cheating BIG TIME if they're legal.

I've been using cell cams for 5 years now albeit not to actively hunt with though. I've got 2 buck kills inside 10yds with a longbow within the same time period. So much for that sneaking theory. LOL

I suppose it’s the method or tactic that you use. I’ve killed 3 nice bucks in the last 4 years. Two of em I shot while sitting on my cart. Camo netting used right is very effective. I have trail cams but they would do no more for me if I were in the woods, or sitting in my easy chair at home.

You would be in the vast minority, if a CELL trailcam would not help you and you were in the woods, and within a reasonable proximity of a trailcam that just sent you a text or email of a deer you're wanting to kill. CELL trailcam mind you. If I were on the backside of my farm, and I got an alert of a deer I would want to kill that just passed a camera on the frontside of my farm, that deer has a better than average (50/50) chance it's gonna die shortly after I take the few minute jaunt to that side of my farm.

I've never killed a buck I've gotten a pic of on a trail cam including the cell cam. The cell cam has however showed me I sat the wrong stand or I should have hunted that day. LOL

The cell cams get you on the text messages. Instant notification cost ya 7 cents a pic. I'm cheap, just check mine periodically during the day.

Are trailcams that send emails or text alerts real-time, allowed in PA ? I would think not ? In general, the use of electronics to aid in hunting is illegal. Texting or radioing your buddy that deer are heading his way is illegal. Lots of that going on

A cell camera put you on notice that a buck is coming. A snapped twig put you on notice that a buck is coming. Your hunting buddy sent you a txt that a buck is coming. Your hunting buddy yelled at you a buck is coming. A hot doe just ran across in front of you putting you on notice that a buck is coming.
All that "notice" stuff means NADA if the buck changes directions, wind's you, hears you coming (Sorry Fleapoo...nobody's that good...maybe lucky...but good?..Unless you have on your super secret moccasin footwear?), see's you first....etc, etc. etc.
The txt your buddy sent is for sure illegal. Depending upon and using a trail cam notification is illegal. But neither one guarantee's you of killing that buck. It increases your odds.....but that's about the best.
I use trail cam's to see "what's there". And I find the pic's very entertaining and also educational!!
I just installed two where I hunt. Lot's of doe pics so far. No bucks yet. Turkey....actually "caught" a tom mounted on a hen with three doe around the birds all looking at the "love making". Just like humans.....even the doe had to watch the "train wreck". I'll post the pic as soon as I remember how to get the pic from my phone to the web.

So....here's the first pic as all seems quite regular....just some doe and turkey feeding along in the field...... When all of a sudden......WHAT'S HAPPENING!!??Interesting that I've seen many turkey in the last week. Had two hens with six poults...poults about grouse size....in my backyard a few days ago. Then when I was coming back from setting up trail cams, saw a hen with one little poult that could not have been more than two weeks old. And the two hen's with the 6 poults I saw....the one hen is a bearded hen. Her beard is a good 5" long.

ATT has put up some new ones in Tioga and they are sharing service with T-Mobile. Tmo and ATT are on the same spectrum, V is on a different one. It is nice that TMO and ATT are working together in rural areas to service customers.
