I went for some wintertime blues over the Christmas break in southern Ohio on the Ohio River for a couple days. Didn't have any luck for them. Hoping the PGC starts stocking them up here in the Ohio River as they are a native species here. Of the catfish species they are the most active feeder in the winter.

I used to regularly target catfish before I bought my VA property & switched 100% to saltwater. Mainly fished below Conowingo Hydro plant on Lower Susquehanna on down to Chesapeake Bay Flats. Lots of fun plus great table fare on cats under 10 lbs.

Some nice cats there CS!! I see you have baitcaster reels. Do you like leaving spool open on click alarm when cat fishing?

Some nice cats there CS!! I see you have baitcaster reels. Do you like leaving spool open on click alarm when cat fishing? I leave the spool closed on mine. Only exception would be if bank fishing and I can't lock my pole in something. I use circle hooks so I usually reel down on the fish or they have already hooked themselves by the time I get to the rod. It is fun to hear a bait clicker singing, but with the circle hooks it seems like the hookup ratio goes down. I release about everything I catch so it is nice to use circle hooks to avoid the gut hooking.

It's amazing how those circle hooks avoid a fish killing gut hook & end-up nicely in the corner of mouth. All I ever use for stripers & flounder.
