Dunno what to do in this "transition" period between Christmas and "fishing weather".
I have the flintlock and I think I'll make a few trips out with that. I've got several pic's of coyotes where I hunt deer and I'm considering setting a few traps for coyotes and maybe one or two for the bobcat I've had on the camera. My only negative to setting traps is the need and requirement to make the daily check. I don't want to let any animal suffer in a trap longer than necessary.
Or...skip the trap setting and "transition" into fly tying with the occasional flintlock outing.
Oh my!! To have such choices in life!!

Don’t know how many years it will take until these lakes finally wake-up & freeze realizing that climate change is just a hoax!!

Well, if you're thinking of making a "Transition", Flintlock to Fishing is about the best scenario I can think of. That said. I like to fish, but don't think it should accompany a test of my survival skills ? Add to that, I'm kinda wimpy also. So I'll stick to the soft water fishing I reckon.

I've seen more tests of fisherman's "survival skills" in soft vs hard water. That is unless you fish in a kiddie pool!! lol

My main fishery is the mighty Yough. Which presents plenty enough by way of survival skills.

I've been ready!! Only if the weather would cooperate!! Ever since beefing up my ice gear(new NIL's 8" auger etc) when retiring in 2014.... only got one year of local lake lock-up!! Only hope has been traveling up to Sullivan County camp & fishing Rose Valley lake(pic below). This year isn't shaping-up to be much different!! Only plus is gives me an excuse to go to camp middle of winter!! I have thought about getting ice fishing gear, but in SWPA we just don't get enough good ice to really make the investment. Heck I am off this week and I have had the boat out a few days. Going tomorrow as well. Looks like that will probably be it for a few weeks as the long term forecast looks pretty cold. Not really cold enough though for good ice. This cold spell should work out as I am do for another 100 hr maintenance on the motor.

Glad I didn't opt for a StrikeMaster PRO Lithium Auger!!

Well I got the boat motor serviced today. I will say that Mercury does a good job of putting the maintenance stuff in easy to get places. Also updated the software on the trolling motor and fish finder. Need to do a bit of cleaning up inside of it and then it should be ready for some warm weather.

I think 4" minimum is recommended.

Looks positive but hate to see snowfall on early cleanly formed ice as usually creates a "dark room" effect underneath not good for the bite. I normally shovel a large area around holes to promote some light transmission. Clean/clear ice is the optimum.

I remember being at Laurel Hill Creek last year and inch worms were raining from the trees. My Green Weenie pattern did nothing, but my buddy had an Inch Worm fly that worked great!! So.....IIRC I'm pretty sure it looked like this:

Kinda thought you'd be the type to make a transition, limbernoodle. But not to ice feeshing.

I have tried several times in the past to ice fish but the flies just lay there on the ice and never got a nibble. I was freezing and then it snowed and I couldn't see the fly any longer ( I don't use a strike indicator) so I reeled in and left.
Not a lot different than my usual fishing but very difficult paddling

Stick with Salma the Kayak. More pleasurable type of fishing when you aren't fighting to stay alive in the process.

Transitioning update for my one trans friend Fleapoo: My fishing button arrived today for license year 2022 I am good to go. For the inquiring mind I ordered the button on 12/24/21 so it took 47 days. They did include the little post card again telling the recipient to make sure the number on the button coincided with the CID number on your paper license. They never gave a thought to reading their own release stating that the new buttons would not have the CID # but a special # that didn't mean anything to anyone. I imagine it gets busy this time of year so I will forgive them for not reading their own releases.

Well, a "feesh button" is just a little nicety... to make you look cool and dapper on your floats.

Stop worrying about a feesh button. More impotent that you get a new registration for Salma the Kayak.
