From what I've read we are suppose to see the 17 year cicada cycle emerge. Lots of gabbing on fly fishing forums and some links to how to tie up a fly fishing cicada. Apparently if these little bugs are around a stream.....forget tossing anything at 'em but cicada's. Man.....they are ugly bugs!!!

I was looking at a map of this brood and it looks like I won't see the emergence.

I was looking at a map of this brood and it looks like I won't see the emergence. I believe we had them 2 or 3 years ago at least where I am.

I believe we had them 2 or 3 years ago at least where I am. Yeah. I think it was two years ago there was a big emergence in areas around here. I remember tons of them between the Pit airport and Center Township on 376. It interesting looking at the brood maps. It can be so localized. I cluster here then another cluster 10 miles away.

Are you going to tie a few up Dave? I may give it a try. I have all of the materials needed. The hard part, from what I see on the "how to build" web site, is two pieces of foam need to be fused together around the edges, and that can be a bit tricky to do.
In the below pic, (The fly's on the left side) I tied up some Red Quill's using a very different method. I used a buddy's example to model from. It took a little time to figure out how to make the quill's curve and stay in the same position. The answer: Once tied on the hook, wrap 'em around something round and hit 'em with a heat gun for about ten seconds. BTW, ten seconds is about all you can stand 'cause my fingers were also getting heated up!!!

They are coming out in eastern pa. Not SW. I'm glad, they did a ton of damage to my sawtooth oak and chestnut trees last time out.
