I believe flintlock season is screwed around these parts. No way we are walking through this snow

I’m hoping for a early January thaw, and no freeze up. If it happens, might be able to do some the last week. I have a couple stands about 300 yards behind camp on a south facing ridge I might be able to get to. The trouble is, I’m not sure I can get to the camp.

Already have some buildings collapsing from the weight on roofs. If we get that rain, going to be a lot more. Especially older buildings or flatter roofs.
Lot of people scrambling to find people who remove snow from roofs. We also have people who are not plowed out yet. Plow trucks really struggled to move this much snow. Most places needed some sort of loader to get plowed out.
I took my skid steer and plowed a bunch in back yard so the deer can get to grass for food. 2 hours after I plowed they were out there.
That possible storm on Thursday can also switch over to snow, to early to know right now. Either way we don't need it, but like Dutch said, if we get 2" rain, we will see some flooding.

Half our 10" snow fall has already receded and it hasn't really been all that warm. Not much sun, either. Won't be heading north for flinter, never get up the driveway. Years ago had to go up in January to haul uncle up to Corning for a funeral, when one of my aunts passed away. Mom and dad were in Florida and dad was recovering from a heart attack. Knocked the crap out of the 4x4 I had back then, busting through two feet of snow at camp, ice in the ruts Saw that snow total for Litchfield. How's anyone gonna get out back for car parts until spring? Ex-wife has a cousin who once lived in Sayre, that married a guy from Litchfield. Last time I was up there, Wes and I visited several of his relatives. Everyone in the family had their own used parts stash out back. Early 70s, was in a gun shop near Sayre that the biggest mess of old lever action Winchesters I've ever seen.

Best hunting is in snow for flinters. Makes it easier to tell you were to push etc... One step at a time...

You can certainly tell where the deer are or have been in snow, Dan, but my God, I found it difficult enough negotiating the rocks and laurel let alone the amount of snow you must have got there at camp. We're a little like Denny in that about half of our snow has also melted down here in South Central PA. I'm getting anxious and looking forward to getting out muzzle loading myself.

Your heart needs to be top notch to walk very far in the amounts we have. I cant imagine dragging a deer out.

They are laying right by the house this morning in the paths I plowed. The deer are burning a lot of energy to get through this snow, and not enough feed to offset that.
We need some sunny days above freezing to melt this down some.

My brother and I are going up for the day tomorrow to shovel off our flat roofs at camp. Gonna be a long walk in the lane thru 2 ft Be careful, wading through this snow then shoveling is tough (and dangerous)on old body's ! It has settled some, but the day after we got the snow I waded through it around my house to shovel Generac out. It was up to my belly, basically pushing your legs through it every step. Hard to appreciate how hard this stuff is to walk through until you take the first 10 steps in it !! If you have a long walk in you may want to consider options. Any neighbors up there with a snow mobile ? At the very least if they drove in and out your lane a few times to make a easier path to walk ? Hopefully you did not get the 3' plus that Bradford County got !

I'm looking forward to getting out in flintlock. This year we have snow......an overabundance......which will require me to put the chains on my cart. Man....I hate that job. (Hate is such a strong word......but it fits when dealing with tire chains!!)

I believe flintlock season is screwed around these parts. No way we are walking through this snow Above freezing temps this week, with some rain forecast and then 50 degrees by the weekend. Maybe it'll pack the snow or melt a lot of it away???

My brother and I are going up for the day tomorrow to shovel off our flat roofs at camp. Gonna be a long walk in the lane thru 2 ft As buzz said be careful it’s unreal how hard it is to get through it. I’ve been working at shoveling roofs since Saturday and it’s overwhelming. There are so many roofs around the farm I’ll never get them all done. I go for a while then take a break. I’ll work at it till Wednesday afternoon then whatever happens happens

Break out the snow shoes and take flintlocks for walk. Sounds like up yonder in Bradford County, it wouldn't be very sporting to put on snowshoes, and hunt deer right now ? From the posts, it appears they are struggling mightily just to move. I surely wouldn't want to walk up to one and fill it with lead or razor. Those northern counties, it just may be the muzzy season that wasn't ? There'll be more I reckon.

We had between 18-20 inches after the last storm and got another 3" yesterday. With some sun and mid 30's temps it did compact some but it's pretty tough to get through. It's supposed to warm up some and weather underground is calling for 2" rain on thursday with themps plummetting to the single digits over friday.I think most of the snow will be gone but we'll we left with several other issues. It's only been a week but I'm already starting to suffer from cabin fever but I also realize that I'm not man enough to hunt in those conditions.I'll likely sit this weekend out.

We are bare ground right now but are supposed to get 3-5 tonight which should make for some great still hunting conditions around here on Saturday for the opener.

But usually it pays off. Yesterday they missed a good 8 or 9pt. I would have never went where i did if it wasnt for the tracks. Plus they seem to move more with snow
