I finally got around to loading up some cartridges for the Creedmoor that I bought last spring. It's a Ruger compact youth model. I've loaded up 100 grain Barnes TTSX bullets with 39 grains of RL 17. Not looking for a super accurate load, just a reduced recoil load. Hopefully, tomorrow I will be able to shoot these. I bought factory loads to sight the rifle in and am looking forward to seeing how accurate they really are. Attachment Deleted

I think the Creedmore operates at a higher pressure than the .243.

I think the Creedmore operates at a higher pressure than the .243. Probably correct. I never looked at it

6mm Creedmoor Velocity
The maximum loads for Hornady 95 SST and 100 grain InterLock bullets using four of the five most appropriate powders listed in the Hornady online data achieve a MV of 3150 fps, with the fifth powder (Superformance) achieving 3200 fps. Hornady 6mm Creedmoor data is for a 24" barrel..243 Winchester VelocityThe maximum loads for Hornady 95 SST and 100 grain InterLock bullets using the 10 most appropriate powders listed in the Hornady reloading manual achieve a MV of 3000 fps from a 24" barrel. Here ya go. You get about another 150fps with a 95gr. bullet from the Creedmoor (or...as I jokingly call it at times....the "Needmoor"). I think velocity spread is a bit more (moor?) with lighter weight bullets.

My point is you can load a 6.5 down to a 100 grain bullet, for a kid. As they get older, you can go up in bullet weight. You can't do that with a 243.
Also, I'd guess, in this day and age in PA, with overlapping bear seasons, a Needmoor will do a better job, with a heavier bullet, on bears. Not confident in the 243 for bears.

Oh......6.5 Creedmoor. I thought we were comparing the 6.0 Creedmoor.
However, I will state that loading my modern action 6.5x55 Swedish caliber....I use the same powder weight of 4065 (I think it's 4065) as the max load for the 6.5 Creedmoor. However, because of the larger case capacity of the 6.5 Swede the pressures are not as high.
The velocities however.....are the same.

Yeah, yeah, I know you love that Swede. One reason I switched to 6.5 caliber in the late 90s was because my former FIL had a sweet chooting Swede
