With the exception of increased accuracy, is it worth the money outlay to continue doing so, or even starting.? I figured my cost to reload a 20 round box of 308’s today is about $17.

It depends on your goals. For some it's a hobby. The equipment to get setup ain't cheap. Glad all of ours was bought in the early 70s.

It really is a good question. I have a bucketload of equipment. RCBS and lots of dies. MEC progressive and all the accessories. Once in a while I load a few boxes of target loads, but I can buy them at Walmart for about the same price as components. It’s been close to 50 years since I was worried about MOA accuracy off the bench. Most rifles I own are capable of shooting factory ammo better than I can see these days.

I bought some very cheap factory loads for my new rifle. It will be interesting to see how they shoot compared to my reloads. I know it probably won't be much.

I reload for a hobby that I can actually do. I bought a new 9mm about a month ago and then went to different vendors to get dies, bullets and powder. I didn't want to load for the 9mm as last year 9mm factory was as cheap as reloading. But now, with the shortage, I save my 9mm brass and reload on my progressive press. If I had to reload the 9mm on a single stage press...I just would not do that. Far too many pulls to get a loaded cartridge.

That's the trouble with a semi. with a bolt action rifle or wheel gun I shoot 5 or 6 rounds, with a semi it's twice or three time that amount. Don't even like to think about the AR with a 30 round clip, just to dang easy .LOL

The case length and crimp are critical to avoidin jams in some guns.

The case length and crimp are critical to avoidin jams in some guns. You're spot on with that. I know that for my A\R-15 in .223, the case sizing and OAL are critical to the ammo not having any FTF. I purchased a Lee "Undersize" sizing die and when installed properly, it sizes the brass just a tad smaller than a conventional sizing die. For the seat\crimp I purchased an RCBS die. I've shot about 50 rounds of my reloads and all worked as they should have with non FTF's. I have two separate .223 sizing dies. One "regular" for my bolt .223 and the other a "Small Base" for the A\R-15. The .223 rounds using the SB die work very well as I don't have FTF with those either.

I reload for 9 mm, with a single stage press but never found it finicky in my SA SDs 9. Just reload for practice rounds

Only loading I do now is in my muzzleloaders. Don't shoot enuff ammo to justify combined with today's vast selection of premium ammo. It's a great hobby for some but I have other hobbies placing higher on my list vs spending time reloading.
