A good friend of mine pulled out one of his hidden treasurers the other day, and got it to me. It's a Remington bench rifle in 22LR with a 10X Untrel target scope mounted on it. You guys ever owned one of these scopes? Seems like a neat scope and I'm going to take it to the range on my next trip and see how it shoots.

They were made in Pittsburgh. Not that style, but Unertls were once used in military sniper rifle.
I still have a 12x Unertl like the one above. We used them on varmint and long range deer rifles

The S\N of 22272.....from what I've read....is older than 1952. I only think that as the 30+-thousand S\N was dated around that time.

I read the book, white feather as well, but can't recall exact scope he used in his day......great book....great read. I do not doubt he used Unertl, as they had the best reputation in that era....

It's in the Wikipedia link about Unertl that the Marines used them for their sniper scopes, and Hathcock used one. I never read his book.

Dave, I'm sorta shocked you never heard of Unertl, but I guess by the late 70s they were out of favor, more or less

Some of those Unertl scopes fetch some pretty serious money . Look them up on GunBroker or other sites.

The crowd I hung with couldn't afford scopes. We all used open sights. The only person I knew with a scope was my late Uncle and I recall he had a lot of trouble with his scope. Sent it back several times to fix. I don't recall the brand. Then again.....I was a poor sheltered child.........

Reminds me of the ole Lyman All-American scopes that half my camp members went to mid to late 60's!! Other half stayed with open sights. On those rainy/damp days....guess which half could hunt?? lol
