Heard back today(below) from Norma that they will no longer be offering the Norma Oryx 156 grain ammo in the US. Glad I have about 3 boxes as this is my favorite all around load(deer & bear). Sounds like the 6.5CM trumped the ole Swede. Well looks like my Browning X-Bolt 6.5 Creedmoor hedge has me covered!! Loggy I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Unfortunately, our 6.5x55 156 gr Oryx is no longer available in the US market. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance to you.
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Kelly Bramblett

Got tons of 6.5 Swede brass but was hoping to avoid getting back into reloading. My Daughter is going to wedding in Germany this summer & thought about having her picking some up there but think The German Weapons Law requires a German weapons card/German hunting license?? Looks like my Browning X-Bolt 6.5CM may be in the starting line-up more than planned if I go through my 3 boxes of 6.5 Swede Norma. Lets see...1 annual pre-season confidence shot at range shot, 3 yearly deer=3 shots. That's 15 years of ammo & being 68 takes me to 83....mebbie im in better ammo shape than I thought ammowise!! lol I surely won't be doing much plinking with it though!! Got ton's of 140 gr Swede Hornady Superformance for that. lol Man...there's sure ton's of the 6.5 Creed out there though!!

MidWay is showing a fair amount of 6.5 Swede ammo Loggy. I'm sure something in the mix will keep your Swede running for deer. Likely a Partition stuffed case someone is making too. I know it's tough to lose your favorite round.

One reason I handload, Muab. Yep Muttley. I've only ever shot one deer with a factory load. Must say, it worked. But as a reloader I'm not behold'n to the big boys for my ammo. Truth is, the only factory loads I've never been able to better is 30-30 Winchester. After 100 years they've pretty much got that one down pat. Muab

Well....looks like the Federal Premium ammo boys jumped on the marketing opportunity that Norma's recent cancellation provided for us 6.5 Sweders that favor a 156 grain!! They have a Federal Premium Bonded Fusion now in 156 grain that is within 59 fps velocity at muzzle(2500 vs 2559) plus provides over 300 more ft lbs punch at 100 yds due to superior Fusion bonded bullet design. PLUS @$21/box saves me a few shillings. Credit goes to my buddy CMP on "other site" for the lead!!

The BC for the Hornady ELDX is G1--.625, G7--.315. I find these wicked accurate!!

Folks; the 6.5 Swede in most any configuration will kill a PA whitetail... Use an adequate bullet in a decent rifle, place the bullet in the right place and you got venison and back straps... Not a big deal. The Swede will do it. Loggy knows this all to well.. Muab

Yep Muab....I know what the Lil Swede will do an deer & most recently a PA Elk. I like the 156 grainers especially for heavier critterd like bear plus elk.
Dave I looked closely at the Hornady ELDX offerings and if most of my shooting were 200 yds & beyond I may have opted for it as it has a heat sensitive polymer tip to afford expansion at extreme ranges. Read quite a few reviews/hunting reports where there was extensive bullet fragmentation inside 100 yds due to bullet construction not being bonded.

A lil more research on why the 156 grain Fusion vs Oryx has better downrange performance is likely due to the (BC)ballistic coefficient of the Fusion being 0.489 vs 0.348 for the Oryx. Just looking at the bullet design(below) it appears that the 156 grain Fusion has a more slimmed down/pointed tip vs the somewhat blunt tip of the Oryx. Will be able to better compare once my Fusions arrive. Norma Oryx
Federal Fusion
Finally received my Federal ammo order of the 6.5 Swede 156 grain Fusion(3rd pic down below). Easy to see why the (BC)ballistic coefficient of the 156 grain Federal Fusion is 0.489 vs 0.348 for the 156 grain Norma Oryx(middle pic). The 6.5 Creedmoor 140 grain Fusion is at top. Interesting on how smaller case size of 6.5 CM is vs the 6.5 Swede.

The reason the Creedmore can push the heavy bullets to the 2800+ FPS is the MAP pressures are considerably higher than the max for the Swede cartridge.

The heaviest ammo I found for the 6.5 CM is the Hornady 143 grain Hornady ELD. Almost all are 140 grain. Federal offers the 156 grain in their Fusion(above) for the 6.5X55. Plus Norma has the 160 grainers in their 6.5 Swede Alaskan line. Wonder if there's seating issues with the longer projectile in the shorter 6.5 CM case?

I switched to 120s last year. Might have to shoot a doe this year, just to see if they kill deer. 😊

I don't think I'm allowed to do this......but I'm throwing caution to the wind and posting what Loaddata has listed for the Lapua 156gr "Mega" bullet. The odd thing is when I google for the Lapua Mega bullet, I only get the .264 in a 155gr and not the 156gr. Man....confusing? But a quick trip to the Lapua web site shows only one 155gr bullet and no 156gr bullets.

Held off till yesterday(last day Regular Season) as my new Browning X-Bolt 6.5 Creedmoor was getting thirsty for some blood so took a young doe. The Federal 140 grain bonded Fusion flopped her in tracks penetrating shoulder and exiting with sizable exit wound. This ammo cuts holes at 100yds so it's a keeper. Had a buck in scope first week but couldn't positively identify in heavy cover more than 4 pts. Had a decent Y. My time in woods this season was somewhat limited with wife suffering min-stroke early fall. Luckily was limited to left rear portion of brain so no mobility impairment just speech/memory. Thanks much to my daughter for leaving wife stay at her place while I was at camp. She's getting extensive speech & physical therapy and coming along well. Thankful to get as much time hunting as I did with looking fwd to a few days flintlock God willing. Nice fat young doe already butchered at Barn Yard Butchers just outside Dushore. Dropped off Saturday morning & picked-up on way home this morning all vac packed & quick frozen.
