Question for all of you that have made more smoke than I have. What make of power leaves the less residue in the barrel after shooting? Seems we have to clean between each shot or two to ram a new load home without a lot of force. I have always used Gotex 3f power in all my muzzleloaders, and still do. My first rife was/is a custom long rife 45 cal, Douglas xx 40 inch barrel with 1/60 or 1/66 twist, (don't remember anymore) that I shoot nothing but patched round ball out of in front of 70 grains of 3f power. Don't use it much any more because I can't see well enough beyond 20/25 yard with the open sights, was no problem 40 years ago.😀 Fouling doesn't seem to bad with this rifle, but I usually ran a wet & dry patch between loads because the round ball is .451 with a .02 pillow ticking patch. Yeah it's tight, but she shoots center if I hold true. Fouling is a problem in these 4 gun though, unless we run a cleaning patch or two between shots. First is a Thompson Center Hawkens 28" barrel with a 1/48 twist. 80 grains 3f power behind a 45 cal sabot' Second is a RMC 50 cal, Green Mountain barrel, 24" barrel 1/28 twist. Also 80 grains of power shooting a 45cal sabot or maxi ball, usually sabot. The other two, one flint, one percussion, both are RMC 50 cal, Green Mountain 28" barrels 1'28 twist, shooting 80 grains of 3f power and maxi balls. Don't know if the fouling is normal or due to the brand of power. Don't think I'm near max loads on any of them, so I wouldn't think it too much power.

I've read that Swiss is the top of the line BP. I've always used GOEX and it is satisfactory for my BP shooting. If I were to start match shooting, I'd try to track down the Swiss powder.

Nah...not a matter of match shooting. If you do enuff shooting & want to save a couple hundred cleaning patches a year, minimize lock etc cleaning .....go Swiss. Plus...you can even reduce your Goex loads by 10% with same performance & by darn may even get better accuracy too boot!!!

When I started many years ago, it was Dupont BP. Along the way it became GOEX and there was something available years ago, that had an elephant on the can. Hard to find GOEX locally, as none of the "big box" stores carry anything but stuff for inlines, like 777 and pellets. Got all of my BP from Shiremanstown Sports Shop over the past 20 years.
Heard of Swiss, have never seen any locally.
