Hey, looking for a good beginner rifle for deer hunting. I was thinking of getting a Savage axis xp with scope that had good reviews for $200 on black Friday.
Ended up not getting to the store in time to get one and a family friend who no longer hunts with his Savage lever action 308 with scope is willing to sell it to me for $350. Not sure since I'm just getting into hunting and not sure if it's something I'll keep doing for years to come if I should go for the more expensive/better used or new cheaper/beginner rifle.
Thanks for any input! Happy hunting!

IMHO the "Axis" models in the Savage line are the bottom end of the firearms. I'd either look at the used Savage and see if it functions right, or spend a little more to get the much better Savage 110\10 model line.

You won't lose money on it if you decide not to hunt.
Look up Savage Axis on YouTube.
