Oh, now back to our regularly scheduled "leashed tracking dog" programming from 2019. Then again, ANY traffic on here, has to be good traffic. LOL

keeping it current
Had my beagle out this afternoon for a run He jumped a bunny and ran it to my foot. At my foot the bunny did an about face and took off again. Chunk had a hard time with that and I had to put him back on the line, He then picked it up again and ran it to hole. While I was waiting for his return a woodcock walked by me . Both the bunny and the woodcock got a tip of my hat and well wishes.
It is freaking wet out there. I'm not find the bunnies that should be here. Deep snow and vey wet summer & fall not a good combination for ground dwellers
I did have a lead on the pup heading back to the house.

And THAT right there proves my previous point. A warm, kind-hearted, affectionate, conservation-minded sportsman from Bradford County, gave that furry little bugger a wink and a nod, and sent it on its merry way. Had that cottontail met up with the boot of a Fayette-Conger, it would have been boot-stomped into a mudhole.

I know this post is over 2 years old, but TL should mandate that any wounded deer on their hunt, and not found, has to be followed with a call to a tracking dog handler. Of course, at the expense of the shooter (and ya, I know there isn't a set "fee" ? unless that changed) I wonder how many "better" shot choices would be made in that case ?

And if I may add. I have no idear how this ended up at the top of my "General Hunting" forum, but it did ?

Nothing goes to waste in Nature. If your not eating it something else is. Not quite sold on tracking dogs. Still on the fence.

I ‘have no problems with tracking dogs, being color blind I’ll take all the help I can get if needed. You are 100% correct on “Nothing goes to waste in Nature.” I will also add that Mother Nature can be cruel, and is not very forgiving. Only the strong and/or smart survive.

Watched a video of a pack of wolves take down a bull elk and eat it to death. Much prefer a bullet than being eaten to death by wolves.
