A new Henry and an original Marlin 39. Not too much more fun than 22 LR's. Attachment Deleted

None of the newer WW bulk selections shoot very accurately in most of my 22s. The original Dynapoint bulk ammo and Wildcats bricks, were once favorites. Good luck.
Federal bulk ammo has always been pretty accurate for cheap stuff. I need to spend more time burning some of it up.

Me too but the 39 is only rated for standard velocity ammo which I have in CCI Standard velocity. So the old guns do have some drawbacks I guess. But they feel and handle a lot better and the machining is incredible.

Dave, back when hoarders made .22 shells hard to come by, I found a few boxes(333 or 500?) at field and stream and bought them so my sons and I could shoot like we did before the ammo became scarce. They were dirty and jammed the two pumps we were using. The bolt action rifle never jammed but when I took the pumps apart to clear the jams and cleaned the bolt they were all absolutely filthy-much worse than any other ammo we have ever used. Things may be better now. I hope you'll tell us what you find after shooting a bunch of your new ones. My youngest has a Henry but we hadn't shot it that day and decided not to use the Win. rounds through it.

Just stay away from Thunderbolts and Golden bullets and you're usually good.

I can see why that one would be your "favorite"

Just stay away from Thunderbolts and Golden bullets and you're usually good. You never know, and is the reason you may need to try many different brands. I bought a Remington 504 22 caliber awhile back. Put a Leupold 2X7 rife scope on it, that I had, but it never shot as well that I thought it should. I tried Winchester super X, CCI Blazer, Thunderbolts, and some different match grades ammo I had. Told the local shop owner, where I bought it, he said bring it down. I blamed the scope due to the parallax in the rife scope. We mounted a Leupold VX3 22 scope with an AO on it. I had brought the super x, thunderbolt, and cci ammo with me. He grabbed a couple different boxes of match ammo he had open, and we headed downstairs to the indoor range. I told him the thunderbolts seem to be shooting the best, I could tell from his facial expression, he didn't think so. After shooting all of the above with out getting a good 5 shot group, small but none of the holes were touching each other, he put 5 rounds of thunderbolts into the gun. He fired the first and second shot, then another, looked at me and said they're all touching, fired the last two, shook his head and said they're all touching each other, creating one small hole. I ordered a Leupold VX2 2X7, 22 scope, wanted the AO, but just to much money, which fixed the problem. I also have a old Winchester Model 68 that was dad's trapline gun, along with anything else you need a 22 for. It has probably spent more time sitting in the milk house, when we were on the farm, then anywhere else, I also used it for a trapline gun, and taught my son and daughter how to shoot with it. Gave it a good cleaning last fall, and took it to the range this spring. I did the same thing with different ammo that I did with the 504. The CCI Blazer's will put 5 shots into a tight cluster, none of the others will. It's still hitting to the left, will need to drift the rear peep some to the right, I've ran out of adjustment on the peep sight.

This is the rifle I took today. It's a Winchester model 62A pump. The S\N indicates it was built in 1947. I picked this up from my sister when her husband died. Unfortunately when I arrived at the range today.....the rains came....hard 'n heavy. Ended up shooting my #25 conventional bow indoors. Nice part of shooting a bow is there's no clean up afterwards!!!

My Grandfather had three Winchester model 61's. He was partial to the hammerless.
