I would like to see Lyman come out with a synthetic stock on the Deer Stalker to lighten it up to carry ! Pretty wood does not make it shoot any better or kill more !

I think the bulk of the weight in Lyman is in the octagon barrel. Just like my two flinters. IMHO if you wanna lighten up the rifle, have a gunsmith round the front part of the barrel. Then you have an octagon to round barrel. Octagon to round's look very nice. This one on my 50 cal flintlock has a "wedding ring" turned on the very front.

Like dave said its all in the barrel. Could also send it to bobby Hoyt and have him ream and rifle it to a bigger caliber, that will shave some weight too. As well as round the octagons off...
