Alot of the recoil from a rifle depends on the shape of the stock. In my case, it wasa Ruger American vs a Ruger American Predator

The 6.5x55 has as much downrange energy as the .308, and less than half the felt recoil.

Alot of the recoil from a rifle depends on the shape of the stock. I think most of it has to do with the weight of the rifle itself. My Henry 45/70 has very little. It's very heavy with an octagon barrel. Recoil similar to a 308. I had a Marlin in the same caliper that I couldn't shoulder without a 2" recoil pad.

Shoot that 45-70 with some HSM Bear loads. 430 grain at 1,700 fps. Then you'll unleash the beast in it.

Those are good ones! Just might have to do that!

I have a Marlin 1895XLR in 45-70. I find the recoil more of a heavy push than a sharp "bang" like my .308. I shoot 405gr. lead at 1,567fps using 40gr. of RL-7.
This rifle will cut a perfect 3 shot cloverleaf at 100 yards.....its that accurate!!
