I started my ice fishing this season right after deer season closed in Dec. Had a good week but the rain & temps stopped the show. I started again in N.Wayne county last weekend and now I can fish locally again. Even some of the smaller coves on Lake Wallenpaupak are safe. I'll be headed to the "Pak" in a few minutes...any body else ice fish on these boards?

I don't ice fish. Did when I was a teenager and bitter cold and wind meant nothing to me!!!
From the looks of the forecast your gonna get some "ice thickening" weather as the lows for Monday are at 5 degrees.....and that's in Pittsburgh.

These days the ice guys have sleds and huts and heaters. Another bunch of sissys. Lol
I like how they do it in the upper Midwest, well constructed huts that get towed out on the ice.

Everybody does??? You paint with a broad brush. Just a sled for me, along with the auger, 5gal bucket & jigging rod. I don't like tip-ups because being mobile has produced better than staying in one place. It looks like the snow storm is a dud for me. Too much snow would have insulated the lakes & slowed the ice formation.

Is the ice thick enough? Doesn't seem like it has been that cold long enough to get it frozen good.

Northern PA they are doing a good bit of ice fishing I fished in N Wayne county at around 2,000 ft elevation on Thursday. 17 degrees & 14 inches of ice. Lake Wallenpaupak's southern end has 4+ inches now and lots of sissy's out fishing Friday too, lol.

I can fully understand up in the upper midwest and Canada. But all of those enclosures and stuff ain,t needed here. I forget where this huge Ice fishin rally goes on every year.Thousands of people go out an have a great time.Literaly shoulder to shoulder on the ice.Montana or Minnesota I think. The aerial view is breathtakin.

That,s the case here.Even with a extended cold snap the snow on top of the slushy ice won,t make it safe.I know where the current moves at Cross Creek and know where to stay away from unless we get locked into and extended deep freeze after the lake clears off. Not very often Ice conditions are safe here.
