I was wondering if any of our members have either of these cold weather suits and what you might think of them. How do they perform? How are they to get in and out of? I think bow season is still in in Ohio and they just might be the ticket for the kind of weather we're in for this weekend.

I have the IWON XT. To me, it has so many extra features that the HBS does not. It folks up into a neat little napsack to carry in. Tons of pockets. Built in hand warmer muff. Built in facemask. Waterproof and windproof. More upper boddy mobility. The IWOM is a bit harder to get into due to the sleeping bag lower, but once you are in, it doesn't hinder your lower body mobility in a stand or ground blind. It is a great body suit for the toughest conditions.

Some years though I wouldn't even need the thing. A weekend like this upcoming one though and they would be nice.

That's a pretty good article George. I googled both of these items and pretty much came up with the same conclusions as that article. I think with the features Ridge noted, especially having your arms free when game appears, I'm leaning toward the Iwom suit. You're not going to be walking around in it because it's so warm, so I see no need to have legs in it. Thanks for your responses.

You know, I remember the Iwom suits being demonstrated down at the Sportsmen's Show in Harrisburg. I'm going to check them out down there if I can find them and see if they offer a "Show Special" as so many vendors do.

I looked at them, and Dave thinks they are the cat's meow, but I don't think I need one. So far the cold hasn't bothered me nearly as much as it used to when I was younger and didn't have the kind of clothing we have today. The last thing that got cold on me was my feet, and since I got a pair of boots with 2000 grams of thinsulate and merino wool sox that hasn't been a problem anymore. On my head, a good thick wool sock hat and a ski mask seem to do the trick in really cold weather. One last little problem came up when I had part of my left hand index finger anputated. That stub gets COLD! Chemical hand warmers help a lot. Maybe when I get old I'll need one?

If it is cold and windy then, it can be brutal to sit all day in a treestand. For short sits 2-3 hrs I can usually get thru those in archery. I don't have that much trouble in rifle season because I don't usually hunt from a treestand and I will take a little propane heater along with me if I am going to be sitting. Many times we do a fair amount of walking. This year in archery I probably wouldn't have used it at all, but I know a couple of years ago, I really wished I had one. If we lived in Northern Michigan or something it would be more of a priority.

There are days that these suits could be used in PA but my son is of the age now that he wants to start taking his ole man hunting in new territory.....and I'm going to let him! I had to bow out of a hunt to Ohio this weekend because I just don't own enough cold weather gear for the low temperatures they're expecting. I figure an Iwom suit will make it easier in the future to say yes.

I'm not sure of the exact address but I know it's west of Coshocton by the Woodbury Wildlife Area. He and his FIL are going to hunt a farm owned by friend of his FIL. It might even abut Woodbury Wildlife Area.

I wish I had followed up on my venture years ago.. On really cold days I used to take an old GI Goose Down Mummy bag to the stand with me. They were made with a really large and quiet zipper that was easy to open by just expanding your arms. Most of the time you did not need it zipped up anyhow, just sit in it with the top part open. The worst part about them was the tendency to fall asleep being so warm and toasty! I thought years ago this was a good idea for hunters. I had a friend who actually owned a small sewing business with a half dozen ladies and commercial grade sewing machines. His business was struggling and I talked to him about designing a "Tree Cocooon" for hunters that had arms and pockets, and waterproof material. I never followed up, and I really think he was done with the sewing business anyhow and did have the motivation to try something new. Probably was a mistake. By the way, you can still find Goose Down mummy bags surplus online.

I hate hunting fashion but last year I caved and bought a Sitka fanatic jacket.I don't sit for hours on end in the cold on a regular basis but I've yet to get cold wearing this thing and all I wear is a single moisture wicking base layer beneath it.The hand muff pocket is just the cat's arse.I paid almost $400 for the thing but it's very light and very well thought out.I'd highly recommend it unless you're a complete candy ass.In that case, sitting around a warm fire sipping some gay drink is probably a better option.

Boy, Glenn hit the proverbial nail on the head. Several years ago I purchased a Millenium tree seat to make my days afield more comfortable. This bow season, I had a dandy buck walk in on me at 15 yards. I'm at the age where I sometimes judge my day afield by the quality of nap I've taken. I can see it now. Me sitting in that seat encased in a toasty warm Iwom suit with a Booner or longbeard looking at me.

Yep. Us old fellers don't need anything else to dim our wits... like falling asleep, or like messing with my phone this fall and looking down to see a wall hanger under my tree! Long gone before I could put the phone down, take my drug store readers off, get my bow off the hanger, hook my release to the string, and get a shot. :/ Darn dummy!!

Well my son and his father-in-law returned this afternoon from their late season trip to Ohio. They encountered rain/freezing rain Saturday; snow/freezing rain Sunday; and miserably cold weather Monday and this morning. I asked him how his Heater Body Suit worked and he said it kept him toasty warm. The only complaint he had with it was that when deer were spotted and he prepared for a shot, unzipping the top to free his arms left all his body heat escape from inside. On Monday he said it was only a matter of seconds until he was shaking from the cold. That same complaint was noted in the youtube videos I viewed between the two products.
They didn't have any luck harvesting a deer. Jonathan said he had a shot on a buck late Saturday and a doe on another day but the problem he had both days wasn't with the suit, it was with his Ravin crossbow. He said he had a terrible time releasing the safety but the safety kept re-engaging. I'm not sure what he meant by that but his FIL said everything worked fine when it was brought inside the cabin at night.

I wonder if he didn't quite have the trigger latch unit cranked back far enough?

Well, I traveled down to the Sportmen's Show yesterday with a couple of hunting buddies. We knew where a few of the vendors were located that we wanted to visit and headed to that Hall first. We found the Iwom booth and watched their demonstration which was pretty much that shown on YouTube. I tried one of the suits on after being sized by an employee. I found it easy to step into and adjust. He showed me how to kick my feet out and zip the bottom closed. The suit has plenty of room if wearing a coat and as I sat there I easily moved my arms and torso as if shooting a gun or crossbow. Standing up afforded more mobility. I was impressed and decided I was coming home with one in Realtree AP camo. The price was $65.00 of the regular cost and you also saved the shipping charges. They even threw in a free hat. I left the parcel with them and picked it up on the way out of the show.
They seemed to be doing a brisk business because I saw many individuals carrying their box throughout the show.
You know, every year my wife thinks we're going to see the same thing we saw last year. Well we do, but we also see the latest items that companies have come up with and we always see new innovations for the hunting industry. A couple items that come to mind was a new, bear proof feeder manufactured in Texas by OneAndDonePro. Another item was a trail camera mounting system by Spyhigh. This ingenious system allows you to install cameras up to 19' high in minutes without the use of a ladder. Check 'em out.

Good deal on the IWOM Acorn. They are truly a great hunting garment for the toughest conditions. Why be cold if you don't have too.

Been watching these and talking with the guys from Iwom for the last few years. They cut my brother and I a deal on 2 of them. My wife just got it for for for my birthday in January.
Just in time for the polar vortex! I came home from work one evening it was 9 degrees and the wind was blowing 20-25. I had on a pair of jeans sweatshirt and sneakers. Put the iwom xt over that and went and set on the deck for an hour and 15 min. Was texting my brother and friends as i was doing my test. I didn't even get a chill in that time, the wind was hitting me pretty good too. I went in and took it off and had my wife feel me for cold spots. Nothing!!! That was just an hour and 15 with just a sweatshirt jeans and sneakers. I think moderately dressed for cold underneath it and there's no way you will get cold. Especially here in Pa. Where you may hunt in some single digit weather and teens but not much. I don't think you'll start testing the limits of the Iwom til your down in the -10 and below stuff. Im sure the windchill i was in was negative numbers.
