All one shot ! 3 -308s and 1 - 30-30 ! 1 with a 150gr. GameKing-SPT-BT 2-with a 150gr. Pro-Hunter SPT 1 with a 170gr.Pro-Hunter JFN Only one fairly long shot of 155 paces and it was with the SPT-BT on a power line ! All 4 guns were at one time not long ago were mine and I worked on them such bedding and triggers and the load work up { not the 30-30 though I just load for it .} This makes me feel good to do this for my sons and son in law ! 4 deer and a few days left to go. We have more tags but don't shoot them just to kill them.

I handloaded for a lot of years and I enjoyed it. I don't know what it is but since I moved back to PA I cannot get interested in handloading? I've just been buying factory.

Taking a deer with a home-brewed load always makes it a bit more special...at least to me.

Now thinking about it, I've never used factory loads. We always had a reloader set up, since I was a kid.

I used factory loads until sometime in the mid 1980s when a local gunsmith convinced me that handloads were both cheaper and potentially more accurate. I invested in an RCBS outfit and he gave me some basic instructions as to how to use it. I did have to work a bit to get something that shot better in my .257 Roberts than the Federal Premiums, but eventually I managed that too. I will never go back to factory loads. As others have said, it adds something to target shooting and hunting that makes it more personal and less "store bought."

I also have .257 Roberts ( among others, lol) and it's never been fed any factory ammo. 120gr Nosler partition push by 41gr IMR 4350 has been lights out on deer for me.
Good luck on the last day of rifle.

Good luck on the last day of rifle.
It took awhile for me to work up a load for my .257 Roberts. I tried all sorts of powder, primer, bullet combinations and finally settled on this one: Bullet: 117 grain Sierra Game King BT Powder: 48.0 grains of MRP Primer: Remington 9 1/2 M Cases: Rem This combination has killed a slew of whitetails from a bunch of states, most of them one-shot kills. The bullets perform the way they are supposed to perform on deer sized game, but I'm not sure I would not go to the Nosler Partition for something larger. Since I have other rifles better suited for larger game I have never felt the need. The first stuff I tried out of this rifle was Federal Premiums with 120 grain Nosler Partitions, and they shot extremely well (1 inch groups at 100 yards). That is why it took me so long to come up with a load that shot better. Most would have been satisfied with the Federals. I was pretty much satisfied, but I like to monkey around with loadings. I guess it is a failing?
