last year I had a semi-custom .338 federal made.I like it but I don't like it as much as my Kimber Montanas.I'm thinking about selling the .338 and having my Kimber Montana in .308 rebored to .338.That would be about as perfect of a rifle for the way I hunt and where I hunt.My only issue is that the .308 in an absolute tack driver. Will JES do a good enough job that I won't lose my mind?

I've read nothing but good reviews about JES reboring. OTOH....like any rifle, you just don't know until you shoot it.

If a gun shoots, ya don't mess with it!

I've actually dealt with JES so I'll handle this. He'll build you a tack driver and he does it in a 2 week turn around time. He only wants your barreled action and a check for $250 ($225 if you only want 3 groove rifling like I did). The man is a master smith and you'll be happy.

Just got off the phone with JES and my .308 Montana will be a .338 federal as soon as deer season is over.I'm holding Mike personally responsible for the finished product.Anyone in the market for a really cool custom built .338 federal?

Anyone in the market for a really cool custom built .338 federal? Only if it shoots one ragged hole at 400 yards. If it's not accurate.....it's not worth talking about!!

Doug, is it a .338 magnum? My buddy had one built years ago for huntin out west. I shot it couple times and it kicked like a mule. He shot a whitetail doe with it once. He hit the front shoulder, and blew the whole leg clean off.

No,it's a .338 federal. It's just a .308 necked up to .338.It's really a useful caliber.Recoil is close to a .308 with 180gr bullets but it has the same muzzle energy as a 7mm mag.It doesn't have the range of a 7mm mag but it hits like a hammer at reasonable distances. All that in a short, light, handy rifle. My son can even shoot it with no problem.

I want to build a 358 Winchester in the off season. My son is trying to talk me into a 338 Federal.
