As I said already I recently bought a Weatherby VG in 243. This rifle has spoiled me. I love shooting it and now I don't feel like shooting 308, 30-06, or 45-70. I decided the 243 is plenty of gun for PA this year and perfect since we're doing WY pronghorn next year. We're already talking Elk out west in 2020 and I think I'll pick up a Creedmoor before then for my big gun. My health problems made me lay down the hard kickers for a year and a half and now I can shoot them again but I can't seem to enjoy them anymore no matter how much I try to talk myself into them.

Years ago I shot 7 mags and a 30-06. For what?
If it weren't for concurrent bear season, I'd go with the 243 as well.
I do like my 260, always have. And the Creed is just as sweet

Friend of mine and his (third) wife went bear hunting in PA for years and often went to Canada for spring black bear. Over the years she rolled plenty of black bears with her M700BDL in 243. He used a 30-06 and often wounded one, or missed one. She killed a nice Canada bear one year first thing in the morning, he wounded his bear. When they finally found his bear and got back to hers, the flies had ruined it. OTOH, a guy that posted years ago on a hunting site and managed to incur the wrath of just about everyone else there, always claimed the 243 was " a girl's gun". So I'll go with that. No kickers fer me. Sold a light weight 30-06 several years ago that was sure fire shoulder bruiser. Also sold my 243, come ta think of it? Anything I figure oughta be dead, gets whacked with a 25-06.

Don't need a 300 Win Mag to kill a deer, unless they are 600 yds away. 😂

There's a fella on here who killed two Black Bears with the 243 Winchester. Can't think of his name at the moment. My SIL used to date a guy who killed a Clinton County black bear with his 6mm Remington and 80 grain varmint bullets which was all he ever used. A lot of times I believe the greater precision that can be had with a smaller rifle equals out the greater horsepower of the boomers.

Won't find me saying anything bad about a 243. Had one in a early Remington 7600, still brings a tear to my eye when I realize I no longer have it. As for bear, with the right ammo no problem.

The 6.5 Creedmore is no better....or worse than the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser. My modern action Savage with a Shilen barrel shoots at 1.000 yards and is as accurate, and with as much velocity and energy as the 6.5 Creedmore.
The "advantage" of the Creedmore is that it's a short action caliber, where the 6.5 x 55 is a long action caliber.

The Creedmoor is better for the non handloader. Its factory loaded to significantly higher pressures.

The boy is still in Iraq and he's had me buy several hard kickers especially this 35 Whelen. Since he can't shoot them himself he keeps asking me to buy different ammo and try it. I finally told him I've had enough of shooting this stuff. Even his Bergara 308 got to me yesterday. He has a Remington 600 Mohawk 243 on the way from Gunbroker right now. That one I'll gladly shoot!

I'll take that Bergara and find a nice light load for it, for you. Might even give the gun back. What are friends for? LOL

300 mag sold like that but my 30-06 just sits on Armslist. No interest. I'm surprised that its so hard to sell a Weatherby Vanguard with scope for $375. Especially a brand new one. I did hear there's not a lot of demand currently for 30-06's. May just end up keeping it. Then I'll feel obligated to hunt it and I just have too many guns currently. I don't even have places to put guns anymore.
