I have a bottle of triple 7 I bought at Cabela's probably five years ago I am running low on 2f. It doesn't do well in my firestorm by itself. My question is this can I mix the triple 7 with black powder? I tried selling it with no takers so I might as well use it if I can any tips?

I wouldnt mix them together. Buy some more 2f and give the T7 to an inline shooter. That being said i have heard of guys using a 5 grain starter charge of black followed by the main charge of sub powder minus the 5 grains. Dont know if it is considered safe.

www.chuckhawks.com/difference_black_powders.htmThat link is a Chuck Hawks blog about the very same question you ask. I'm not a Chuck Hawks "fan" because CH comes across as an expert on all things firearms, when in fact he post a portion of "nonsense" when his commercial clients have yanked their sponsorships from him in the past. But, IMHO, I've had some friends do a small mix of BP and T7 down the barrel first, then just the T7, then a PRB. The mix of BP and T7 was to get the T7 to fire. The results were no better than just ordinary FF BP. I would do what has been suggested. Buy some BP and use it. Eventually you will find a T7 user that will buy that can from you. As for me, my in-line powder of choice is Blackhorn 209. FWIW Dave

Triple 7 starts to deteriorate after 5 years or so losing some of its potency vs black powder which has an indefinite shelf life if stored properly. BH209 is advertised to basically have an indefinite shelf life.
As far as mixing...NEVER MIX ANY powders. Load guides are specific to a particular powder granulation/composition & mixing is just asking for trouble.
As LH said...a lil 4fg bp(5g)to help ignition of T7 is likely ok & used to be in T7's instuctions for flinters. to aid in ignition.
For a flinter...just best to stay with black powder & if you can find Swiss...all the better.
